Disabled off road driving tuition

Afternoon all,

My wife want's to get some off road skills to build her confidence up after having an accident last year that cost her the use of one of her hands. Can anyone suggest an offroad course/training that can facilitate a one-handed newbie offroad driver? looking for a half-day or full day training.

She is able to drive a auto D3 (when I let her in my driving seat Smile)

Area can be anywhere within midlands/cotwolds/Wales area

Hope someone out there has some ideas - would solve christmas present issues Very Happy

Does she require the use of a steering wheel ball?

Have a word with your local Land Rover Experience centre, I'm pretty sure they would do their best to accommodate your wife.

Thanks Bodsy Very Happy

She does need a steering Knob Whistle and we have a couple of quick release ones to move between cars.

We've got Eastnor just round the corner from us, but she was consider something a bit less "intimidating" first.

I have only one Arm as a result of a motorcycle accident, I did a LRE day and 2 half days at the Chilterns LRE, the people there were very helpful and I was put at ease b the instructors, never felt intimidated by the off road course or using the D3.
Good luck to you and your wife. Thumbs Up

Chilterns has now closed.
If you give LR Experience East of England Rockingham Castle, near Market Harborough) a call, I'm sure they'll sort out something suitable for you. Tel number is 0844 84 844 63 or email info@lre5.co.uk
As Eastnor is so close I'd not rule them out, explain what you're looking for and they will produce a suitable package that is not intimidating.

Any of the land rover experience centres would help including Eastnor and it can be as tame as you want it to be, Thumbs Up

Thanks all - think she will probabably give the LRE a go at Eastnor, she was more positive when she understood other "one handers" had given it a go Smile

Have a chat with your LR dealer, explain the reason behind it and see if you can't get them to part company with a LRE 1/2 day voucher - they don't just hand them out with new vehicle Whistle

Then book with LRE Eastnor - great guys there and very good and making people feel at easy in the vehicle.

Good luck on Saturday Steve.

As one lunatic to another do you mind explaining what a T4 paraplegic is?

Good information is vital to educate the unwashed masses! i.e. me

Yes I could google it but that would not spread the info as widely.

Brendan

PS Have googled it. Brief info HERE So a big Thumbs Up to Steve. I for one will be interested to hear how you get on.

Hi Brendan,

Spot on with your Google search. That website is brilliant! For those who don't know, I am paralysed from mid to high chest down after a motorcycle vs Mercedes interface four years ago. it's all good though - life is much better than I ever thought it could be since being paralysed. (The Merc was doing an illegal right turn on a blind bend and hit me head on, on my side of the road. He was only doing 20 but I was doing 50 so it was a good one ! ) Thumbs Up

The day at LRE Luton today was superb! They couldn't accommodate me and Abbs any better than they did. We were with Colin Bow down who was the most patient, encouraging instructor I could want. We took my D4 places I NEVER thought it would go. As soon as I work out how to post video here, I have some to add. That is my next job at the 1-2-1 sessions with Apple Smile

Seriously though - Aurin. I truly hope that your wife has as good an experience with LRE as I did! She will love every minute of it! Hope this helps and I can't wait to get over to the site in Ashford to practice some of what I've learned today Very Happy
