Disco 3 front offside drive shaft / half shaft removal

Hi all Im new to the site and have found some really interesting topics.

My first cry for help, Im currently replacing the front offside half shaft on my 07 discos 3. Ive followed the fab directions of a previous post regarding changing CV boots to the near side shaft

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/change-fron...rive+shaft

Im at a point where Ive stripped everything down to get to the shaft, I've pulled on the shaft and its split leaving the log shaft in the long housing with the CV case, Ive tried to pull it out but it seems quite firm. Do i just pull sharply on what is left in the housing to remove the shaft or do I need to start removing the housing to release it?

I changed my inner n/s front cv boot. Just left the inner part in as in your picture. They are held in with a c clip on the shaft. You can use something like a crow bar to pop it out past the c clip but remember you will lose some oil. Thats why I left mine in place. Can still get new boot on and resecured in situ.

So I’m not the only one to encounter the same problem.

Anyway I took the bull between the horns, using a long bar against the back of the cv housing I gave it a swift wallop with a lump hammer and it did the job, I was able to carefully remove it from the housing.
Refitting the new one was simple, carefully pushing it into the housing and locating the drive pin, a small shunt on the shaft drove it home for the circlip to engage. All in all it took around three hours with a tea break. The previous link ref changing the CV boots was a great tutorial for replacing the shaft.
