| Disco 3 oil vent crankcase separator replacement |
|
Hi everyone,
I had some oil leak coming from top of the engine, looks like oil separator o rings loose on right leg,
Anyone have any idea how often should the separator be replace?

Pretty sure I've got the same issue. Not much on the topic around unfortunately.
Oil dripping down the back of the engine and onto the exhaust crossover pipe on mine.
Starts to smell of oil on uphill runs.

Hi
Got it done, its easy to check, basically look from top where the both legs of the separator going to engine block, if its loose then gaskets need replacing, and also if its leak you will have oil all round even on glow plugs, i have changed all seals and got new oil separator problem gone no more oil leak,
had some luck  because oil was all over the top my glow plugs they came off very easily,

Are they special gaskets or just o-rings?

special, like o ring but in metal housing you need proper ones

Not expensive, so do both while you're in there. Part No 1337060. When I bought them locally they were $12AUD each on the shelf.
There is a special place in hell waiting for the person in Landrover that wrote the manual section 303-08C with the line "Reposition the crankcase vent oil separator."
That's not unlike "Fit feet of both legs to respective stirrups, insert arm and remove baby", without the "assembly is the reverse of removal".
