It definately wouldn't come out, I suppose I could have cut it into small pieces in-situ but fitting the replacement, without damaging it...when it arrives, would have been impossible without the unexpected extra work.Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

.Matrix arrived this morning. Different to the original as it has the pipes attached but they are non removable as the ports on the matrix are swaged and the "O" rings pre fitted at assembly so it's more work having to feed the pipes up behind the dash and releasing the snap in heater hose connectors right at the back of the engine 😥
Pics of the new and old attached.
Also have a connector (Spare ??) behind the drivers side console which I do not remember disconnecting. The length is such that it won't reach very far. The only device in the locality is a sensor with a plastic hose connected to it and that already has a connector fitted

Hi mate
Does the following electric diagram help
That’s a right sod then isn’t it having it now thread the pipes through , hopefully once the new matrix is fitted will be plain sailing

The heater hoses in the engine compartment are terminated with fittings very similar, but larger than those used on the fuel lines where you have to depress button(s) in order to release them. They are located right on the bulkhead behind the fuel pump drive belt cover and access is very tight. Added to that, I did not fancy, after removing the pipes, trying to manoeuvre the new matrix and pipes through the maze inside the car and through the bulkhead, plus of course the combs between the matrix tubes are very easily crushed which in turn could of reduced the airflow.
The unit has been returned for a refund and I have ordered another which has the same end fittings as the old one, which should be here Monday

Hi john
Ur so welcome mate
That’s a bit of a result then with still being able to buy a matrix with the detachable pipes as indeed have seen those pipes on the bulkhead and look a right so and so to reach
Always wondered if would have been brilliant if the Metal part of scuttle panel had been removal allowing greater access to the back of the engine area
Also looking forward to piccies if that’s ok plse to cut the old matrix in half plse, or shall I say pretty please with a cherry on top
Plus at least now the days should start getting longer
Hi Bud...The graphic of the connector locations are spot on
The sensor shown clipped into the dash is different to mine in style, there is just a hole in the dash and the sensor is behind it. The grey hose shown, fits on to the end of the dash sensor I have just mentioned. In other words, I do not have the white sensor shown in the graphic on the end of the hose, but I have the white plug connector.
Possibly the additional sensor is for certain export climates and knowing LR, they use standard wiring looms.
I remember being caught out on the old P38 once after finding a loose connector hanging in the drivers footwell. After hours trawling through the wiring diagrams, found it was for a switch on the Clutch pedal.........Mine was Automatic Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Hi mate
Glad u found it in the end , must admit wouldn’t have thought of the clutch pedal, lol
As a side note I see with the gap iid u can check a lot of things on the heating
New matrix fitted but still loads of trim to refit.
TIP:Where indicated on the photo, put a smear of silicone grease on both sides of the matrix to ease refitting into the "Letter box" location as there are anti rattle rubber strips within the slot and it's a snug fit.
The new Nissens matrix came complete with pipes (Not used), clamps and "O" rings.

Topped up coolant & bled system. Started engine and got it up to working temperature. Adjustable heat from both sides at last
Multitude of faults relating to Airbags, suspension and transmission which are down to starting the car with airbag on/off selector switch and centre floor console yet to be fitted and connected up. Hopefully easy fix with the diagnostics.
Heater blend and distribution motors retaught and working as they should.
Found yet another "Spare" connector in the area of the satnav screen, green in colour with about 10 wires going to it, All the electric gizmo's on the centre console, Satnav, Radio/CD, Heater control and 12V auxillary sockets working fine.
Hopefully get it finished tomorrow, weather permitting.Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021
