Martin - is it just me or do we have a problem with the response time on this web site?
It has been getting slower and slower over the past month, to a point where it is now taking up to 3 minutes to open any topic. Disovery 4 Landmark 2016 (66 plate) Indus Silver

Guys, it should be much quicker than that. Can you both post a ping and trace route to disco3.co.uk, example below

Okay, assuming you're using Windows, simplest way....
Click Start then Run
Type cmd in the box then hit Enter (return key)
Type ping disco3.co.uk > d3.txt, hit Enter, wait for the prompt to return then..
Type tracert disco3.co.uk >> d3.txt, hit Enter, wait for the prompt to return then..
Type notepad d3.txt, hit Enter, a text file will open
Select all - ctrl key + A
Copy - ctrl key + C, then...
Paste - ctrl key + V into your reply to this post
Or you can copy straight from the prompt without piping it to a .txt file as Paul has done

Paul,
The ping is okay, only slightly slower than mine, what speed connection are you on?
The tracert doesn't show much unfortunately, try running it again a few times and see if you always get the same result. Try doing a pathping disco3.co.uk as well, it'll take longer but reveals a bit more

or on a Mac just use Network Utility and hit the Trace Route button
or open Terminal (yes its UNIX underneath the pretty stuff) and type :
"ping www.disco3.co.uk"
Simple on a Mac !
I get this...
ping www.disco3.co.uk
PING disco3.co.uk (83.142.27.234): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 83.142.27.234: icmp_seq=0 ttl=45 time=25.714 ms
64 bytes from 83.142.27.234: icmp_seq=1 ttl=45 time=25.136 ms
64 bytes from 83.142.27.234: icmp_seq=2 ttl=45 time=23.651 ms
64 bytes from 83.142.27.234: icmp_seq=3 ttl=45 time=23.205 ms
64 bytes from 83.142.27.234: icmp_seq=4 ttl=45 time=23.769 ms
--- disco3.co.uk ping statistics ---
31 packets transmitted, 31 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 22.184/23.770/26.113/0.835 ms
So... its working pretty quick at the moment. But then this is just contacting the server not measuring how long the server sends out the page to you which can be very slow at times.

Yup, just trying to establish if there's problems with their connections at the mo, we know there are issues with the server causing occasional time outs but the rest of the time pages should only take a second or two to load

Tony,
That all looks good, no problems with the connection so lets try and establish what else could be causing it...
I can see you're using AOL as your ISP but are you using their customised browser or standard Internet Explorer or something else?
What version of Windows are you running? - type winver into the Run box, hit enter and let me know what it says on the Version line

Hi
I'm using Windows XP Version 5.1
I'm also using AOL 1st level Broadband 500 bps?
As for the Internet Explorer it is the standard one that i have used for 5-6 years or more.
Just to add to my frustrations - I have been on this site now for 1 hour and have sent received 4-5 pages.
The access speed has got slower and slower - so much so that I very seldom stay on this site now and that brasses me off big time. I enjoy and gain a lot of details from this site but really I can't bear to use it at the moment.
The only reason I haven't asked before is because I've been on holiday all week and now I'm back I want to catch up on the posts.
Is there anything I can do?

Hi Si,
Ive tried the ping a few times and I get the same result each time and my connection speed is 1.1 mbps. I was having problems mid afternoon and the download speed is a lot better tonight.
The pathping results are as follows.

Tony,
In Internet Explorer select the Tools menu then Windows Update, let it scan for and install any updates, this may take a while and require a reboot or two
Is it just this site that is slow or are there others?

Paul,
Doesn't look so good, do the tracert to a couple of other sites you use regularly, do you get similar results?
You shouldn't get as many '* * * Request timed out' responses, one or two is expected which normally indicates your going through a firewall or anonymous router.
Are you running any firewall software on your PC? If so try turning it off briefly and repeating the tests
