Disco 4 2014, lower arm replacement

Just about to change the bottom suspension arms on my 14 plate Disco and am wondering whether it is best to go for genuine LR parts (existing have done 60K) or look at OEM/aftermarket ones.

Not looking to move the car on so I want something that is going to last.

The car is only used really on the road and for towing so not really looking to go down the polybush route.

All advice will be much appreciated.

I would say if the original arms have lasted 60k and you are happy with them, stick with original.

Surely suspension arms shouldn't go at just 60k Confused

I fitted genuine arms to my car. They lasted 60k miles, but only 2 years Neutral

At that point, HD arms were not available, and Superpro bushes were also not an option back then...

I would say 60k is very good, my RRS ones did 40k and started to knock.

Suspension bushes are common across many makes of car, wifes Audi needs all front suspension arms at 76k.

Hi Mikey. Do the hd arms have any effect on the ride or noise in your experience? It seems the hydro Bush is replaced with all rubber. They seem a good upgrade without going poly Bush. 4 year warranty to (can’t see a mileage stated though)?

Thumbs Up

None at all Thumbs Up

Been fitting them for 3 years now, never had a complaint about them, and had no warranty issues at all Thumbs Up

Thanks guys for your input.

I wasnt sure whether the full rubber ones would reduce the ride quality but it seems like it doesnt make much difference.

I've just spoken to LR for a full service on my Disco and had the fright of my life.....£790 for a service. Apparently its a B service but when I said that it was double the services I had last year she said 'well we do a lot more' Looking at the maintenance check sheet I am not sure that the 'extra' works amounts to double the cost!

I'm not so sure now whether I will keep the Disco long enough if that is going to be the amount of future costs!

Thanks anyway guys

You need to find a decent independent LR specialist near you, I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction for that.

The dealer services are way over priced in my opinion.. the 112k Service with the belts I was quoted £1600 by the main dealer, Flack (a bit far from you I guess) and other indys will do it for closer to the £850 mark.

As for a B service, I would imagine you can get it done for half that price, or.. it's really not a major job doing it yourself.. You only have to go underneath to do the fuel filter, the engine oil and filter are a doddle with a cheap pump. you could always go to a local garage and ask them to just change the fuel filter if you supply it..

There's a wealth of knowledge on here to help you out if you need it, or maybe someone nearby who can guide you through it the first time. doing a few things yourself can give you knowledge and save you £000's

That coupled with cheaper but just as good parts from Advanced Factors it's well worth it.

Oh and as for the lower arms, A lot of people on here just replace the entire arm, especially if someone else is dong the work, as they can spend more time trying to remove/ cutting the bolts then pressing each bush out, with the labor, it can be cheaper to just replace the entire arm..

Here's a link to have a browse:

I've had two sets of arms on my car. One at 50k, and the other at 100k. Both sets were genuine.
