Disco 4 2016 not serviced until 38k from new...

Looking to buy an approved used April 2016 Disco 4 with 38k on the clock from a LR dealer.

I Just pulled the online service history up and according to that the car wasn't serviced until 5 days ago at 38k miles, thats 31 months and 38k without a 1st service.

LR have confirmed they have no record of a service in 2017 (16k or 12months service) but they have done 2 services to validate the warranty.

Its priced low to be honest and im wondering if that's why. Is the engine going to be much more worn than it should be.

Should I be running for the hills or looking for a deal?

Much obliged

Will LR honour any warranty left on the car despite knowing that the service has been missed would be my first question

Not all services are recorded automatically on the on line system, mine wasn’t and there was no record in the service documents, but the previous owner produced receipts of what had been done to it including new front lower arms, etc, apparently it has to be requested by the customer.
I can’t see LR offering it as approved if it has not been serviced, ask LR who the previous owner was and talk to him, I did. Thumbs Up

Indeed. I would get it in writing that the warranty will be honoured with specific reference to the service history, no ifs buts or maybes.

Thanks for the replies.

The salesman i had been speaking to wasn't in today when i called to clarify what i had found online.

Another chap confirmed that they had no record of a 16k miles 12 month service being carried out. However the dealership have carried out both services in the last couple of days to 'validate the warranty'

I guess i'm worried that if the car hasn't been serviced in 38k miles (and its first service too) am i looking at a dog?

That won't help you imo. The warranty company will not accept that. I repeat, imo you need a cast iron guarantee in writing (which you won't get I bet).

As to wear and tear, yes it will have weakended many components and oil ways could well be blocked, a lot depends on the type of use its had, but I wouldn't buy it, warranty or not.

Can you see who was the supplying dealer, if different? Number plates may give this. They may know what was done by the buyer if done there. Often peeps are creatures of habit and go to the same place to get the car serviced. Thumbs Up

The first service is the most important in the life of the car IMHO, although I do know someone who ran a new Golf to 128k miles without a service before he passed it on, said he never puts oil in an engine until the red light comes on Shocked Shocked .
Ask to have a look at the service documents they have and see what was done to it, it could be a good indication, if a lot of work was needed it is likely the first service was missed.

Actually - the salesman did say they had record of it having been into another local LR dealers to them for warranty work. I suppose an oil change could have been carried out then which negated the need for its first official service...

Mine was showing no service for the first two years, I have owned it from new and all services carried out.
I requested the dealer to correct this, it now shows all services carried out and on time.

Until you find out otherwise assume it as not done. LR, nor LR dealers, aren’t known for their generosity, specifically providing free servicing. Possibly, maybe probably, the missing service was done, but without proof you’ve got to assume it wasn’t. OK you take the risk, but then you’ve got to explain that to the person you sell the car to.

Thanks for all the replies.

This would be the first LR I own. Its a commercial.

I'm going to the dealers tomorrow and if they can prove an oil service has been done during warranty work, a cast iron 2 year warranty, and increase it to 3 years (i will most likely finance it for 3 years) then i might still be interested.

Cheers

Ill let you know how it unfolds

That's it. I'm trying to think what warranty work might have involved an oil/filter change. Any ideas?
