Sorry, I can't remember if the switch should always be in contact with the pedal.

As they can cause issues and are so cheap and easy to replace I'd consider it like a preventative maintenance item and swap it out anyway.

Just be careful not to 'investigate' the new one too much before fitting as I think I remember the spring mechanism pops out when fitted and it's a pig to get back in if you pop it out before fitting.

I will be careful with the new one, as you say they can pop out and this did happen with the old one on removal! I have been reading that they can be adjusted? Should it hopefully come set correctly out of the box?

Is the D4 brake switch the same as on the D3?

Today I fitted the new brake switch which was the same part number as the old one - so even the updated part still gives problems evidently! Straight after fitment I could tell that the brake pedal was no where near as sensitive as before and put the brake lights on after about 5mm of travel had been applied. Before all I had to do was hit a bump or knock the brake pedal and the lights would come on. I have since done a 30 mile round trip and all is well so fingers crossed that’s the problem solved!

Yes, it seems to have the same part number.
