Shocked ..... review from 'Top Gear'....

'In fact, it’s so rounded and unfazed by modern life, it’s just a pity the Disco has become so massive. Driving one through a built-up area if a fraught experience. Parking it, despite many assistance systems, is simply too gnarly. And we ought to address the image too. The old one was a square-jawed minimalist masterpiece, but are we alone in wondering if the new Discovery has become too streamlined and smoothed out for its own good? There’s been some identity loss for sure, and around the back, where that slab-sided form, barely stepped roof and huge C-pillar meet, the car does look a tad lardy. And visibility is poor too. The less said about the offset numberplate, the better…'

Just about sums it up for me...... Big Cry

Is the rest of that article available online Richard? If so, do you have a link please?

Yet they still rated it better than the XC90 and Q7 in a recent Top Gear test.

Yes steering lock is laughable, yes some parking spaces can be tight but it’s only 20mm wider than the 4 and the same width as the FFRR and RRS2. I wouldn’t say it’s any worse than the D4 to park.

I notice it being longer than the D4/3, otherwise little size differences. Visibility is better all round in my view.

Having had two D3s, and two D4s, my position is clear: the D5 is as big a step change as the D2 to D3.

Obviously, each to their own. It's more expensive, and more upmarket, no mistake in that. There are attributes I miss from the D4, though not many. But, having driven one for six months now, the D5 is a pretty impressive car that puts its predecessor into the shade.

The turning circle of the D3/4 makes life so much easier for me. Shame that was lost with the D5.

There is no noticeable difference in fact the D5 has less turns lock to lock. So IMO its easier to drive in tight places. Im 10,500 miles and 8 months in.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

In a tight space every inch counts...a little story:

I bought a flat in a new building. I was the first buyer so i could choose the garage position. Supposedly a confortable garage for two cars and all the same size. I took the tape measurement and found one which was 20cm (8 inches) wider! I chose it. Not a big deal one would say...but now i can keep my two classics dry (68 Porsche and VW T2a bus) and still fit the D4! To get out of the VW bus i must use the side sliding door though! Laughing

What about opening the tail gate in private home garages, any thoughts between D4s and D5s?
I'm asking because my D4 just about touches the electric rolling door in this same garage which is set a little lower than the opening lintel...

Figure for figure in the brochure, there is around a 1 metre increase in the turning circle between the 4 and the 5. With the move to a unibody and the market need to offer ever larger and wider wheels, something had to give.

Really?! Shocked The roads must be a lot wider where you are! Rolling Eyes

Actually, looking at your location on this site, you appear to live in the right hand lane of the westbound carriageway of the A3, just under the M25 interchange. You have a nice wide road to turn around on then! Thumbs Up Laughing
