Disco 4 off road protection fabricators

Hello team,

Just wondering if you know of any people who make off road protective kit for Disco 4's that doesn't cost the earth?
A steering guard with cut out for towing eye, most people want £350 for that... which is to my mind a complete rip off.

shire Fabrications do rock sliders for £200 ish for the D4, when most other places want £500, so anybody got any leads?

Thanks.

I had a look at these guys. But I just feel most of the Disco 4 stuff is just way too expensive for what it is. I could get 3 protective items for the D2 for the cost of one on the D4.

Just had a sump guard made for my D4 by Ray (RLD) and, as always, it is superb.. highly recommended and nowhere near the prices you have been quoting Very Happy

If there’s a particular item you’re after put up a “wanted” ad... people often have bits tucked away that they’ve not thought about for years (me especially Laughing )

I've been PMing RLD one of my mates has a commercial D4 and he's looking for a guard too. So I may get two.

Completely sympathise, I have a full set of underbody protection on my D3 and yes, it's way more expensive than it should be. Challenged a couple of suppliers, who both said that they'd sold hundreds of sets of D2 stuff over the years and could buy/make it in quantity, but that D3/4 stuff was very low quantity so more expensive for all the usual reasons. One also admitted that there are a lot more suppliers of D2 protection so more price competition.

Fwiw I ended up going for a set of D44 guards from Devon4x4 which are heavy but extremely "substantial", then made my own for rear diff and exhausts. These are the D44....

I looked at Devon 4x4, as its only about 40 to 45 minutes away from me. I could literally collect them myself. But, the cost for a few sheets of metal is ridiculous. Over £500 for rock sliders? I bought my D4's sliders from Shire fabrications for more than half the price of Devon 4x4, but, I don't know if Shire have gone bust or whatever, but they don't answer emails anymore... At least not to me. Shame, I liked their stuff.

At the moment, RLD is sorting me out a steering guard. Ideally I want a compressor guard as well if the compressor gets knackered we're screwed! And I already have the rock sliders. There is a plate on the engine already and the transmission is tucked up out of the way so the odds of knocking that should be very very low. I just don't want to weigh an already very heavy car down even more needlessly.

I sent 2 emails, both unanswered. I also phoned them and left a message. Then I sent a 3rd email which has also thus far gone unanswered. So, since they don't want to speak to me anymore, I have taken my custom elsewhere for the D2's protection.

If they can't be bothered to reply to a simple question, then how can I trust them with hundreds of pounds? Maybe they can't be bothered to post the stuff I've paid for?

Yeh, I have the Shire Fab tree sliders too, best value on the market I could find and still good quality ihmo. And yes that's a lot of money for the what looks like a few sheets of metal, but it's 8mm Alloy. Have you tried bending or cutting holes in that stuff? I have and believe me isn't easy! Rolling Eyes

It's also quite heavy, but I figured nearly 3ton of Disco meeting a sharp rock would need something pretty significant to prevent it really spoiling my day in the middle of nowhere. Very Happy

Do you mind me asking how the arm guards are attached? I've bought some used ones but no instructions.

If anyone's interested the guy I bought the arm guards off was also selling the steering guard for a D3.
