Disco 4 screen upgrade

Have read the long thread on this upgrade. The one thing that concerns me is screen dimming. Has anyone managed this yet ?

This is the concise thread

I think an American has used an adwieano computer to do brightness control.
I just turn the screen off at night

Hi Pete, can the screen not be manually dimmed through its settings ?

Brightness D4 screen in a D3 doesn’t bother me TBH…
Atleast not to the extent that i want to spend a lot of time and effort in it to get is dimmed…

As Pete said, on long stretches at night, when i do not need the 4x4screen, there is always the red X to turn it off… as that is only the screen, not its functions… no problem for me..

I do not like D4 “upgrades” on a D3 in general…. Just like the looks of the D3 stuff… the D4 screen is a feature i like though… made it to look like dead standard D3, so with the D3 buttons in place
 Best regards
Harold

Alternative Option

Another option I guess.. Garmin do this Sat Nav unit that also pairs with a wireless number plate camera that runs off two lithium batteries (good for 3 months).

https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/p/721098#specs

Whilst the reverse camera won't be activated by going into reverse you can use a "show Video" voice command to turn it on. If the D4 System is anything like my FFRR then the camera takes ages to activate anyway I am normally out of my drive before it comes to life !.

Since the main thing I want is a good satnav and reverse camera and I'm not too bothered about the other stuff. I am wondering if this would be a good option as by now the 2009/2010 Disco 4 units must be quite out of date from a mapping perspective.

The camera activates straight away.

But the maps are 10 years old and can’t be updated.
