Dave - thanks for the info; this is all starting to make me feel a whole lot better as I was wondering if I was going to be on the hook for £5k+ engine rebuild!
Steve - good question!
Everyone - Really appreciate all your help with his and I'll report back once it has been in.

Just to ask.
My 2010 doesn’t smoke or use any oil at all. It hasn’t had the mod done.
Why would this be an issue on some but not others I wonder? If this starts is it a sign that the turbo bearings are on there way out?
Steve
I can't give a proper answer to your question but I helped my mate do the mod on his 2009 D4 after it started smoking which cured the problem and it is still going strong after about 5 years still with original turbos.Stu

So; update.
Took the Disco to SVS in West Sussex who were great. They agreed with you folks that the cause was most likely the turbo drain fault and this has now been replaced. I gave it some welly on the way home and no smoke, which is great. Obviously time will tell if this is a fix but it is looking good so far...
SVS were moaning about the cost of the blanking plate from LR (£46.03+VAT) which does seem extortionate for a small piece of metal but there you go.
I'll update further should there be any developments
cheers
James
