I wonder if a bad module (hand brake) is disrupting the CAN bus communication,
You could try unplugging the handbrake module at the rear (if you suspect it) and see if that helps

I worry the module needs to be in the bus loop.
I'm not sure

Certain modules need to be on the CAN and some don’t. I suspect as a safety device, that this one will need to be on, the WS manual will likely mention it.

the can bus are the pair of yellow wires that are twisted together.
they allow every ecu to communite with each other.
guessing...
there is a high speed can bus
a low speed can bus
an infotainment can bus

The CAN BUS is the communication network that connects all ecu's and modules around the D3, as Pete says, it's a pair of twisted yellow wires. It even loops into the EPB module so there may be a pointer there?
Any break or bad connection can mean a failure to start but CAN BUS faults usually cause the indicators to flash and the doors to lock/unlock repeatedly.
You may need expert help. Broadfields in Great Canfield near Dunmow come highly recommended and I've heard good things about Essex 4x4 in Wickford but never used them personally. Stu
