DISCO3.CO.UK Site Downtime 16th-17th March 2006

Dear all,

By now you will have discovered that DISCO3.CO.UK is back online Smile

The downtime was caused by the popularity of DISCO3 meaning that it was consuming more resources (processing time and memory) than the web host could support on the current hosting plan, so they took the decision to suspend the web site completely.

Negotiations to re-enable it failed, so Slimer and I did some research until the small hours into the options for a site move, and between us we chose to move the entire site to a completely new type of server and different company.

The main delay has been the wait for the new company to set up the server for us and then transferring the data from the old server and ensuring the databases were set up correctly.

DISCO3 is now hosted on a faster server, but it's much more suited to the needs of the site as it expands.

Please accept my huge apologies for the downtime, unfortunately the host finally pulled the plug with just 2 minutes warning and it wasn't possible to implement an interim solution, glad some of you found RRSPORT to play with today Smile

Please let me know if you find sections of the site which don't quite work as expected or give errors - currently I know the adverts are missing and the suspension survey database isn't installed yet. I'd also appreciate feedback about the new server's speed Smile

Thanks for your patience and hope you've found you your way back to DISCO3 and will stick around Thumbs Up

Thank you Martin - I know the kind of hassle you can get running a website - your efforts are much appreciated! A small donation is coming your way as we speak - you should be able to work out which one it is from the Steve N bit! Wink

Martin,

Can happen to any site and this one IS very popular... nearly 1,000 members now.

You've been very busy of late and I'm sure this was the last thing you needed... but as always you drove through the problems and came out on top again.

Hats off mate !

Thanks for sorting things out so quickly Martin, I'm not surprised the site is so popular - it's brilliant.

Oh and by the way you were right about it taking a few hours for my ISP to get the latest info about the server, left it a few hours before trying again and managed to find my way back from your other site. Very Happy

Martin,
you have no need to apologise for anything; you did really well to get things back so quickly. It was interesting to visit the RRS site; I might call back there from time to time just to wind them up a little !

And getting them to their destination a tad better than the RRS I feel too... you should pop along to some real green lanes and an off road course that will put you to the test at Boughrood... not the flat earth lanes on Salisbury Wink

Mind you, wish I was going this weekend as mud is mud at the end of the day even if its on the flat.

Oh and PLEASE take some pro pics for us all when yer get stuck and pulled out by one of your big brothers Laughing Laughing
