Hi All, i need new tyres, does anyone know where i can get a good deal on a set of Wranglers, or something better, but reasonably priced. Not keen on the $400 per tyre Landrover reckon they cost. I was also considering going larger, only if there is a good deal out there of course.
Thanks

Hi Vicken - what do you intend to use the tyres for? If just on road - then the Wranglers are ok. (Not good - just ok!). You might also do better with something like Cooper HT in 265/60R18 - cheaper and better than standard tyres.
I have one unused Wrangler you can buy off me (cheap!). It was on my spare wheel - and last week I just had it removed and an AT tyre as a spare. That is one new tyre - you just need to ask for others to sell theirs!
Cheers,
Rob

Better in what ways compared to the standard Wranglers ?
Have only had Wranglers on mine from new.
How do they compare in ride and handling on road? Do not take life too seriously no one gets out alive anyway!

Go for the Cooper HT+ they will last longer than the wranglers and are much more puncture proof. Very slightly over size I seem to remember. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I agree with the HT+, we only had one stone puncture after many thousands of k when we took 7 months to circle round OZ, I now have 17" Bridgestone D694 LT on for towing a heavy van but still have a set of 18" HT+ for normal use. I last got two HT+ at B-Jane for $315 each fitted four months ago.

noticed on your gallery you've fitted 17"x7" offset +30mm Dynamic steel wheels weighing 15.3kg and BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2 in LT245/70R17
They look fabulous.
Just a couple of questions
How do they handle - on and off road - do you leave them on all the time.
wheels are 17"x7" with a 30 mm offset - is this normal ie only a 7" rim and why the positive 30mm off set - would this allow snow chains to be fitted.
Is the 15.3kg weight significant in any way - lighter or heavier??
Could wider wheels and tyers be fitted or taller wheels??
Thanks for the info

DJ, Rearding the 30mm positive offset for the Dynamic steel rims. Holden Commodore has the same stud pattern as the D3 etc but an offset of 33mm positive (from memory) so what you have is a standard 17" Holden rim that just happens to fit the D3. Land Rover D3's have a positive offset of 53mm so there is a 23mm change in offset per rim making a total change of 46mm in track, most state law only allows a total track change of 22 to 25mm which is where the insurance company's get to influence your decision.
You may want to consider the extra stress/load such a offset would have on the wheel bearings as such a rim would move the centre of the rim 23mm (approx an inch) closer to the middle of the car increasing the force exerted by the inside edge of the tyre on the bearings, I'm not an engineer so I cant evaluate long term effects. The one certain effect is you will be an inch less in clearance between the tyre and inner wall of the wheelbay.

I could be confused (I often am ), but I thought that the 30mm offset would move the tyres outward, giving a wider track.

I find the Wranglers very noisy or is it a ball bearing that gonna go soon? The older I get, the better I was.

G'day Peter,
You are right 30mm+ offset will result in a wider track, I had it back the front, and I had even drawn up a diagram to convince myself before posting. See the following link for a more detailed explanation.

Sorry all for my error, and thanks to Peter for correcting it.
