Just waiting on the turbo.
Given the intercooler to a mate who specialises in tig welding aluminium. He’s going to repair and alter the intercooler to a new mourning spec I want. Basically the side mounts will be gone and be replaced by rubber feet and a top clamping method.
I’m more determined than ever that it’s no going to beat me. Ultimately I’m into this for so much it makes no sense to abandon it now. I just have to keep correcting the bad things.
Hope you have a good New Years mate. Jarrod

Hi mate
Indeed know where ur coming from and I’d be the same in sticking with it
I posted some links for u on ur other thread
Fingers crossed it’s the last thing and ur able to have some trouble free motoring
Checked mine and found I’ve got a flat tyre, again, had it remounted twice already , strange as it’s fine for 6 x months then all of a sudden gone flat
When it leaked before I bubble tested the inside of the rim and found it leaking
Going to swap the new tyre onto my spare rim as there’s no point I feel messing around getting it removed for the 3rd time on the same rim
Once I get the other tyre removed can check the rim to see if there’s any signs of why , know there’s no dents in the rim , maybe get it shot blasted
Won’t be able to do much for a few months after my back surgery
Have in the mean time bought a Bluetooth Fobo tyre monitoring system that works via my iPad / iPhone
Also bought a T max tyre compressor, can keep that in the landy as a back up , along with some handy fittings
Hope all is well
Same to u buddy , happy 2019

Hiya buddy !
Yes I’m hoping that also but know I’ve still got other things. Mainly the rough injectors things. I’ve also noticed a rumble. Always at 40/50mph and 1500/1800 rpm. Other wise I don’t hear it. Suspect a rear wheel bearing going. Hoping it’s not a diff or transfer box but you know my luck !
I had problems with rims going down, paint corrodes off and the wheels leak.
Got one of those tmax compressors, they are really handy !
I’ll be sorting that special project out in the coming week or so mate so be in touch.
Hope your feeling a bit better.

sorry to hijack the thread and happy new year to the team. gstuart mind sharing some information of how this bypass is done? i assume that when you are eremite and compressor dies that way you can keep the suspension operating and travel safely. mind sharing where you connect the T section and how you operate the external compressor?
thanks

Hi mate
Never know it may just be the injector plus the turbo throwing everything out of balance seeing so many things talk to one another , inc the gearbox etc
Thks ref the rim, don’t want to throw the rim away , will know more once I get the tyre removed and can then inspect the rim a lot closer or maybe what’s causing the issue
Also handy to know ref the T max compressor , wanted to get at least a half decent one
Thks so much once again

Hi
I just used the fitting to test out the air lines , had to remove them from the valve blocks, so when I inflated each circuit to test it allowed me to bubble and pressure test each one
My suspension was in a right mess so by me removing the lines from each valve block I could inflate all corners
Just found it a useful item to have , apologises I should have put a better explanation in

Well she’s back on the ramp. Feel like I’ve had my monies worth out of the 2 poster already this year !
New turbo on its way thanks to marks top spot on eBay ! Even managed to negotiate a further £45.00 off so had it for £450 in the end. Let’s hope it’s as advertised and is indeed a brand new unit. Should be here Thursday or Friday. In the meantime I’m going to pull the old turbo out and have a look. I’m also pulling the 6 injectors out to have them tested/repaired. I would like to buy 5 new ones (I already have 1 new one) but just can’t afford to at the minute with everything else.
Given the allisport intercooler to a mate who does alu fabrication work. He’s doing a modification I’ve specified which will basically do away with the crap solid mounts which will just crack again and mount the unit with rubbers etc. The original way just promotes stress cracks from the vibration alone. I’ve read quite a few stories of this kind of failure of their intercoolers which is a shame given the cost of them !!
All in all a busy few days again. (Work still a bit quiet)
Fabricator mate also supplying some stuff for a special project I’m working on for gstuart. Jarrod

Hi buddy
Wow , talk about to through the mill, hats off to u for sticking with it
In for a penny as they say, I would be the same seeing you’ve done so much already and will be such an awesome landy at the end of it with everything done
Will be interesting to see what the old turbo is like , don’t forget some piccies plse , wonder if the main shaft is worn allowing the turbo to become unbalanced when it spins up
Got everything crossed for u mate and indeed agree ur post ramp has really been a blessing
Thks so much , can’t even begin to say how grateful I am to u kind sir
Will also be interesting to see if ur injectors are out and need reconditioning
Look forward to the updates
Ps, my Tmax air compressor turned up, will make up another short hose so can have different fittings on the end , ie, easier to use my other tyre gauge Inflater etc and some other adaptors
Plus will put a T connector on the outlet of my suspensions air compressor as it enters the resevour valve block , so can use the Tmax for emergency if the compressor ever fails , just as a back up, can tuck it out of the way under the compressors cover , project for another day

Hi mate,
Happy new year ? Lol
Yeah feels like I missed the luck bus on this one. Never mind. Just keep fighting....
I’m certain I have at least 1 injector faulty as it chucks tons of white smoke on idle etc. It’s better when hot. Let’s hope.
Ref the turbo, there was a bit of play in the main shaft I noticed when I had it stripped down but couldn’t do much about it at the time. Wish I’d just replaced it then as I hear it’s not the best of jobs to change one. I’m just glad I did the fixings mod now !
I’ll do plenty of pics !
Which tmax compressor did you get ? The big or small ? I have the small one. Very interested in your mod for emergency air.Jarrod

Hi mate
Same to u with a happy 2019
Will u lift the body off again or do the turbo with it still fitted , seeing ur a first class expert now
Also do the injectors and intercooler at the same time
Got the small T max air compressor as previous pics, thought an ideal place to cut the tee in would be between the compressors outlet where it goes into the reservoir valve block
Then if it fails can connect the external compressor to pump the system up, will also fit an isolating lever valve in order it can then be turned off and isolated from the main compressor
Can also see in the other pic where there’s a plastic tee with an air line compressor fitting that can be tucked away under the main compressors plastic cover
Hope that makes sense
Was also looking what the amps were on the Tmax , ie if I can use it via the boots cig lighter port or will have to go directly onto the battery , can easily make up a connection lead if I’m able to but think the cig lighter is only 10 x amps
Look forward to the pics

Just re looked at the t max rating , can’t use a cig lighter connection , will have to connect directly to the battery as it’s 45amps
Oh well, never mind

Ok so the turbo is out. Can confirm what I have read that it is indeed a pig of a job even with the fixings mod. One thing I will say about that. I’m my opinion, don’t drill the holes out and fit nuts & bolts. Take the studs out and fit m8 bolts. Far easier to remove. I had the underneath nut seized and had to cut it with the dremmel. The lower bracket was a pain as you have to wind the stud out to get it off as it sort of wraps around the turbo at the bottom. I found it easier to take the drain off still attached to the turbo and disconnect from the sump. It’s also hugely easier taking the upper suspension arm out and then the front prop. I didn’t have to take the crossmember out to get the down pipe off as the decat one will thread out. With a cat you’d have to take the crossmember out.
On inspection my turbo is indeed ready for death. Loads of lateral and horizontal movement of the shaft. And the actuator arm was “notchy” i’ll Upload some pics later.
Also while I was there I’ve taken the 6 injectors out. At least 3 look very recent, not including the new one I fitted a while back. They all came out easily and have white paint pen marks so looks like again someone has been having a go in the past. i’ll Take all 7 I’ve got for testing and see what they say. Also found the front union of the prop has a fair bit of play so i’ll Replace that too. Jarrod

And.... just had a phone call. My injectors have been tested and are all working fine. Now I’m worried. What the hell could be causing it to run so out of tune at idle ???Jarrod
