Disco's coming home (for 2 weeks)
Hi there,
I'm new to the Disco family and would like to say 'Hello'.
In short:
- I'm from Germany, live in the Cologne area - and love British lifestyle
- Always wanted to have a Defender, but lack of Airbags took me to the Discovery 4
- Just bought my 2014 Disco 4
- Wow, what a gorgeous vehicle; so spacious, elegant, luxurious and: simply awesome.
Tomorrow we are going to bring the Disco back to the UK, for a 2 week trip to the Midlands. We plan to buy some oak wood doors for our home. Glad that Brexit is postponed, so that we do not have to hassle with border controls, customs and extra taxes....
See you around Sheffield and Malton,
Mirko

Nice looking motor, have a safe drive and enjoy your trip.
I used to live in Cologne many years ago and Bonn, miss the country and always enjoy trips back.

Thanks, Mark.
We are currently really enjoying the trip in and around Peak District. For us it is nice to see how many Disco 4s (and 3s and 2s) and Defenders and other nice Land Rovers are on UK's streets. In Germany we don't see that many Discos in the wild.

A great example of a D4. It looks fantastic and very classy indeed.
You will certainly notice a lot more LR products in the UK compared to Germany.Kev

Did you bring mountain bikes with you?
I passed a D4 with funny plates in Wentworth earlier this week. Had a couple of nice bikes on the back.
Sandy.

Hi Dr Disco, I am interested to know what you like about the British lifestyle ?
I hope you have a great time in the UK and enjoy driving on the correct side of the road

Thanks all for the wishes and replies.
@Sandyh: No, we did not bring our bike. The trailer hitch is used by our trailer. But we brought our bike helmets and plan to rent a bike.
@Aerialmark: Here is an excerpt of what we like about British lifestyle:
- Tea rooms: The cosyness of the small tea rooms
- Afternoon tea with scons, clotted cream and a good cup of tea
- Gardens: Gorgeous gardens, plants and gardening centers
- National Trust: Great institution with fantastic castles, houses and other properties
- Effectiveness of roundabouts: They simply work, even the 'Magic Roundabout' Hemel Hempstead I enjoyed last year. In Germany it is nearly unthinkable to drive in the inner lanes of a roundabout - they are most of the time not used.
- Relaxed driving on streets and motorways. Ok, in Germany we do not have speed limits on ~30% of the motorways. That's sometimes fun but also stressfull, because nearly everybody pushes the one in front.
- The British Monarchy (I hope, that's not too political)
Driving on the 'wrong' side of the road is not an real issue - except for overtaking trucks, since with the steering wheel on the left side it's hard to see the oncoming traffic if you are stuck behind a truck.
If you are ever up in Lancashire let me know and I will show you the countryside around where i live (Pendle Hill and the witches) and also introduce you to some proper pies Enjoy your stay my friend The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
