Discovery 3 rear right sensor fault

Hi can any one help with this as I am lost I have fitted a new lr rear rh height sensor and getting a fault saying rear height mechanism fault although suspension seems to work ok apart from yellow warning light on now I have fitted another new lr sensor and coming up with no faults but the vehicle does not come up in that rh corner properly and when I put in to access mode it goes down and then shoots up into extended mode I am at a loss to know what to do next I have also changed the crossover valve and the control box.
Thanks
Rob

Perhaps a suspension calibration is needed?

does sound like calibration required.

No surprise after a new sensor fitted

Do you have the 4x4 info screen? What height is is showing of the rear right?

It may be wires broken, rather than the sensor itself (mine was Thumbs Up )
New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

Is the plug and the wires on the sensor clean and in good condition? I’ve had a few where it’s the wiring not the sensor that’s the problem.

Pete.
IID, webasto software and workshop facility's available.

I did have to put a new plug on it as well as one of the clips was broken the strange thing is they are both new sensors from Land Rover but are doing 2 different things the one saying height sensor mechanism fault works ok apart from saying that there is a suspension fault when I put the other one on no fault but when I go into access mode it goes down then goes straight in to extended mode and then when you put it in to normal mode it sits down in that corner it is the s model so I don’t have the 4x4 screen.
Thanks for the reply’s

Sensor voltage

Hi I have now found out that when I connect a carsoft handheld to the disco the voltage to all of the sensors are about 1.5v on access mode around 2v on normal and about 2.6v in off road mode but the right rear sensor stays at 4.65v in all of the modes it is a new lr sensor fitted so not sure where to go from here any help would be great.
Cheers
Rob

what I would do. and not sure how to do this safely!

Jack rear right corner up
remove wheel
Remove 20A suspension fuse from under the bonnet
unplug the sensor
refit fuse

measure the voltage between pins 1 and 5 on harness plug.
Should be approx 5V

wires grey/yellow & grey/red for rear right

If it's not you need to trace the wiring back to the ecu, as the 3 wires go direct to ecu.

wiring near the sensors and rear suspension most suspect.
But also large connectors in wheel arches ??

Split connectors and continuity check back to sensor connector to help understand what section of wiring is at fault.

unplug sensor.

measure voltage on the 3 wire to ground. Is it the same as your diag said it was ? 4.5

plug sensor back in and monitor 3rd wire.

Being careful not to trap your arm or kill yourself, SLOWLY move the sensor about.

Does the voltage change?

try your other spare/old sensors if you have them

I bought 4 new sensors for mine and when I replaced the rear drivers one even after calibration it threw up suspension fault even though it seemed fine, on inspection I had the wrong rear sensor on , they looked exactly the same but the part numbers were differentl, once swapped for other and re cal, all was fine

I have the same problem as robfal. I also brought 4 new sensor replaced rear right sensor. Still fault light on but all working fine. I just checked the new sensor to the old sensor and there is only 3 pins in new sensor but 6 pins in old sensor. Could this be a problem
