Discovery 3 Suspension Drops to Stops |
|
Hi
I've got problems with my D3 that I've detailed in a separate post but there's something puzzling me.
When I stop / park the car and turn the engine off, all four corners drop down to access height (the lowest setting I think) and on to their stops. The car stays perfectly level all the time.
Once I start the car, see my other post for HDC faults etc. the car lifts back up again but it thinks it's in off road height on the centre switch.
If I then select normal height on the centre switch, it doesn't change height but the switch lights go to the right position.
I've recently had a new air bag / unit on one of the front corners, a replacement suspension ecu and 2 new ride height sensors on the drivers side.
The only other thing I've noticed is when I put the key in the ignition, there's a sort of a whine and then a click under the engine several times and I've got no idea what that is.
The suspension raises really quickly when it wakes up and the pump stop quite quickly as well.
I've got a new alternator going in on Tuesday to try and fix my other problems.
Any ideas anyone? I'm not sure it's meant to sit down all the time is it?
As ever, would really appreciate your thoughts.

it would help if you fill in your profile with year etc.
No a D3 should not be automatically dropping when you park.
Maybe a calibration is required if that wasn't done.
whine and then a click under the engine is normal. Fuel pump/EGR/turbo

Hi Pete
My profile has the car year etc but in case there's a problem
2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE
Thanks on the whine and click thing.
It is parked on my driveway which is on a slight slope and it looks like the back is trying to level with the front
On double checking, I'm not convinced it's droping to the stops, it just sits very low until I get it to start.

Is common on these old cars, when parked over night for them to slowly drop to self level (because of an air leak).
Never heard of one dropping when you take the key out the ignition (and you being able to feel it)
Which one is yours doing?

Hi
It’s not something I can feel, apologies if that’s how it came across.
If I turn the car off the car slowy sinks over a number of hours but remains completely level side to side etc.
As per my post, it’s had 2 new ride height sensors and 2 replacement air units on the drivers side. The garage claims it stayed up when they had it.
Once the engine is on, it all pumps up and behaves other than the HDC errors etc. And I wondered if the drop was contributing.

If you get the car level by starting the engine and then turning off.
look on the forums, there is a 20A fuse under the bonnet whuich you remove to stop it self leveling.
Leave it a few hours, and you may see one corner lower than the other.
This may indicate that airbag is leaking or the seals require replacing in the air valve block (one at front, one at the back)
