Still have mine!
I still run a 2007 V8 HSE.
Have new knocking metal noise when started cold that last for 2-4 secondes then stops. Except that all good. But still looking for the origin of that noise! I reached 196 000km last week!

So having not had a petrol in a long time and not had a big petrol ever, just diesel
Is it normal on the first start of the day for the engine to rev high then settle down?

A lot of tester's just note these things to make it look like they are doing a full inspection if they ever get checked out by the GM.
All of them are quick and easy items to add, but nothing I would worry about on them..

Sorry Catching up a bit
What I've found in the past is if you get a vehicle tested at a main delaer that mainly does new vehicles they take the opportunity to go to town on an older vehicle as their test stats otherwise show that they pass literally every vehicle and they get a visit from VOSA. Having had a motorbike get an advisory for a rear reflector every year for about 5 years I eventually asked the question !05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

Rear upper and lower control arms done. Mech needed to do a lot of cutting and also had to remove brake back plate and wheel bearing to install hub knuckle bushes

One thing that does impress me
How warm physically the engine gets. The dash temp is always level but the actual engine block after a good spirited run is warm!
Take the covers off my d5 and it’s cool in comparison

Just keep in mind the temperature guage doesn't tell you temperature - it tells you what the ECU designer thinks you want to know - its a 4 step range - its in the hand book somehwere05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

From the LR workshop manual:
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The engine coolant temperature gage displays the engine coolant temperature to the
driver. When the ignition is off the pointer needle returns to the cold position.
The engine coolant temperature sensor is connected to the ECM which monitors the
sensor signals and converts the signals into a value for the engine coolant temperature.
This information is transmitted on the high speed CAN for use by the instrument cluster
and other systems.
The engine coolant temperature gage is the same on all pack variants. The gage has a
blue segment for low temperatures and a red segment for excessively high temperatures.
For normal operating temperatures the gage needle pointer is positioned centrally in the
gage display zone. The needle pointer position translates to the following approximate
temperatures.
Engine Coolant Temperature ºC Needle Pointer Position
Ignition off Park position
40 Cold (Blue segment)
75 - 115 Normal
120 Start of hot (Red segment)
125 End of hotPAGODA

but as with most LR products the start of the red is pretty much death for the engine as there's nothing left for the cooling system to do - the viscous is already fully in before that point and there's no back up pusher fan on the V8 (at least not on mine). When you shut down water temp spikes as well as there is no longer any water flow. First thing I bought for mine was a scan gauge on which I have voltage, water temp, oil temp and transmission temp.
If i start to get really uncomfortable with it I may fit a manually operated pusher fan in font of the condenser pack.
Back in 2018 when we were travelling in europe I did notice on the td5 that I could get the water temp up to 105 degrees with alarming ease coming up the hills out of Nice. EGTs were also very high and we popped the manifold at that point. I did notice though that by turning the aircon off I could lower the coolant temperature by a good few degrees each time.
To be fair though its a long autorooute up hill into the hills from the coast - maybe 8 miles or more so I had plenty of time to have a play. we were towing aswell whihc added to the workload but our trailer is less than 1000kg fully loaded so it wasn't that hard going05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
