Looked like you had a crap time. Mud and dust everywhere, no posh hotels, no pool, creepy crawlies and wild animals all around, and miles and miles of wilderness - not a KFC or a McD's in sight. What on earth were you thinking of?
For a proper holiday, get to Benidorm, where a decent restaurant has pictures of its food on the menu, you get free shots upon entering any drinking establishment, and you can enjoy a doner kebab on the beach as the sun rises.

None of you will be interested in this but I'm following a Youtube 4xOverland series where a guy and his daughter are doing a similar trip from SA into Zambia and beyond - in a bog standard DMAX with some decent rubber and suitable kit in the back - this is the 3rd episode where it gets interesting (especially catch 2.15 in)
