A Discovery (4) through Botswana in a week
As I am now working in Japan on a 8 week on and 2 week off rotation, during my 2 weeks back in South Africa we decided to randomly do a week in Botswana without booking any places. The main purpose of the trip was a Media run to gather photos and videos for a promotional video for a crowd funding campaign for an Overlanding TV show. Season 1 is planned to be through Southern Africa and Season 2, an Overland adventure from Melbourne, Australia to Cape Town, South Africa.
Night 1
Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Night 2
The plan was to stay at Deception Valley but they were fully booked, so drove to Maun and stayed at the old bridge backpackers
Night 3
Early morning we set off for 3rd Bridge but it was very dry, drove through to Xakanaxa and stayed the night there
Night 4
Early morning we set off for Savuti but when we got there it was full so ended up driving to Kasane. That sandy road was bad, 60km of deep sand at 20km/h, engine revs were high and 32 degrees resulted in the D4 overheating. Removed the front Grill and opened the bonnet a bit meant enough air got in and she ran fine the rest of the road without overheating
Night 5
Early morning we set off for Elephant sands, sandly we only saw 1 elephant walking through as there were many watering holes in the area.
Night 6
Made Our way towards Kubu for 2 nights
Night 7
2nd night at Kubu
The photos below is the result of the trip

The red top bottles are Solar lanterns. Basically they have a small solar panel on top and small LEDs that shine into a frosted jar.
They provide awesome ambient light for about 12 hours on a single charge. 6 of them light up an entire camp area nicely Disco 4 SDV6 HSE with Compomotives, BFG 265/65R18s, BigCountry drawer system, Melvill & Moon covers, NL 52L fridge, FR Spare Wheel Carrier, FR Roof Rack, Tenco RTT, FR 50" LED Bar, dual spots, Lift Rods, Mantec Snorkel, C-TEK Dual batt system, 270 Ostrichwing, Maxtrax, Icom ID-5100, Icom ID-51 as secondary, IIDtool BT
