G'day from Australia,
I have a broken/disconnected bonnet release cable on my 2015 Discovery. I tried to PM a member of this forum to elaborate on the procedure they used to release the bonnet to effect repairs. However, the forum would not allow me to PM. Would someone who has effected this repair please PM me with their procedure. At this stage I have the grill released from the bottom and managed to grip the connecting cable and released the drivers side catch.

Go on Dean, send it to me as well please.
Even though I had the junction box issue 5yrs ago and came up with the only "logical" solution, I still don't know if its right. I've had a few PM requests on it so better check I'm not advising people to do something that they shouldn't

Much more likely to be a sticky/partially seized release cable than a truly broken one.
Get someone to work the cable lever from inside the car while you check that both latch cables are moving at the two mechanism catch points.
If one doesn’t more at all, its likely a snapped cable but if there’s any movement its likely that the catch isn’t fully returning.
Again, with someone working the cable, try to get some release oil in to (mostly) the cable and also the catch mechanism, with a can of RP-90, wd40 or similar (ideally with a straw to direct the spray)
Sometimes you can get the catch mechanism to engage by banging it down really hard. Best to try and improve the cable movement first before you do though. Also, make sure you return the bonnet release lever (inside the car) to the ‘mid point’ of its travel first
Just some things to try. Hope this helps Corris Grey SDV6 D4 2015 HSE

Clean the catches with generous amounts of WD40 and see if that improves things. .

Help - bonnet catch not working |
|
Can someone please pm the details for how to open the bonnet when the level offers no resistance (although the cable is still attached).
The old girl is SORN atm and went to start her up but the battery is flat so stuck with no way to charge the battery to get her down for an MOT.
Many thanks Dec 04 TDV6 HSE in Tonga green with Alpaca interior.
