discovery 4 noisy wiper blade

Hi, I have a 2011 discovery hse . when the wipers are on as they get to the extreme right as you look through the screen there is a very loud clack I mean very loud. it is not hitting the windscreen pillar. had alook at where the wiper blade attaches to the arm and it seems to be fitted ok checked the nut that holds the complete arm on that seems ok . , next port of call I will be fitting a new blade , it only seems to be doing it the drivers side. any one had a similer problem many thanks, alan.

Assuming the blade is in good order check the arm has not become bent or twisted along the narrow end which meets the blade. If OK proceed as follows but carefully! Try gently lifting the blade whilst the wipers are on constant.(wet screen!) If it stops the "clack" you will need to slightly bend the arm away from the screen. If no change try a little pressure on the arm as it sweeps and see if that works, in which case you will need to slightly bend the arm towards the screen. Trial and error really!

I'd try swapping the left and right blades first, just to eliminate it being the disposable part.

Interested to see how you get on.

I had the same issue when i picked my D4 up 2 weeks ago.

I thought it may be a dry / greasy screen and purchased new wipers just in case (but not yet fitted)

On a long (wet) run last week it seemed to have cleared up but then re occurred when i got near home.

Poor weather this weekend has hampered further investigation.

This problem is much less likely if you have a JLR wiper, rather than an OEM one.

If the suggestions on here don't work try fitting a proper JLR blade. (Also, be aware that the 'proper' blades have the drivers side 1" bigger than the passenger side)

Arms on the driver's side become very bent as many have said. I changed mine a while back and the noises stopped Very Happy

noisy clack to wiper blade

hi , thanks for the replies, looking at the drivers side wiper arm at the end where the wiper attaches it looks as if the arm is twisted compared to the passengers side. so I thought I would take the arm off the car.looking at the nut that holds the arm it was incredibly rusty. took the nut off the arm did not budge. I assume when you take the nut off the arm should lift off.so I have give it a good soaking with penetrating oil and leave it for a few days. I had noticed that if you put the screenwashers on the loud clack stopped for about 5 or 6 sweeps the became noisy again. did this every time. so I thought I would get a new wiper blade got a bosch one fitted it bingo no more clack.thanks again, alan.

That is probably a temporary fix until such time as the old arm deforms your new blade and the whole thing starts again. Whistle

The arm has a tapered hole that fits over the spindle and this will make it harder to simply pull off. You can use a wiper arm remover or I improvised with a small ball splitter. You may be lucky and be able to prise it off without but go carefully.

A wiper arm remover is cheap and worth getting. Without, you tak the risk of b Censored ing it.
