Discovery 4 steering wheel upgrade no button back lights?
Hi,
As the title really... I've just done the Discovery 4 steering wheel upgrade on the project D3 and its made a massive difference to its appearance. However jumping in it tonight to nip to the shops I don't seem to have any back lights for the switches? I know the boards need to be change (hopefully this weekend) is this why the lights aren't working or have I not plugged everything back in?
thoughts?

Hi
I think the illumination is on the red wire , u might be right ref the pcb boards with how they need to be changed
Funny enough I’ve not checked mine yet for illumination , have changed the pcbs and also fitted the D4 clock spring loom up to the D4 wheel
Found the discovery 4 wiring diagram , it’s page 10-11

Wow thanks for all that info! I’m going to take the air bag back off tomorrow and see if the connection is just not clipped all the way in. If you could check yours that would be great. I literally was given two steering wheels and fitted the one that is from a 2010 I think. I’ve used my D3 clock spring and simply swapped the wheels for now until my PCB boards arrive later in the week.

Also found the pic I took of the connectors , right hand side is D3 left D4
Will see if I can find the part number as I bought the extra loom when I done the mod
Plus here’s a pic behind my airbag , you’ll see that u also need some small files for the pcbs , ur see why in my thread

That's really strange. If I may just walk you through what I have done so far perhaps you can see I have missed something..
1) Remove old D3 steering wheel air bag and all leads attached (two circular leads and a spade connector earth
2) Unbolt D3 steering wheel and unclip white plastic multi connector for packs.
3) fitted new D4 steering wheel connected switch packs to the existing white flat multi pin plug
4) attached D4 air bag to existing leads and earth
5) refitted D4 air bag
I knew the buttons would do random thing whilst the I waited for the new boards to arrive but Id of thought the back lights would of been working? You mention I need a new loom? what is this for please?

Hi
Looks as though you’ve got the loom already , to connect the switches
To be honest I didn’t try the lights beforehand as I fitted the new pcbs then fitted the wheel and airbag
I wonder if blackbox can answer regarding the illumination question and How the new boards differ from the old boards
From looking on the wiring diagram is seems the red wire controls the illumination
Did u take any pics of ur switch loom plse as I can then match it up with mine to ensure there the same

Just went out again and double checked all the switches illuminate and they do
In the picture this was the loom I fitted , I’ll try and hunt down the part number for u
New loom is the left hand side white connector and can also see there is an extra red wire
