Fair few parts on that car that could be stripped. Whistle Whistle Someone’s going to be eyeing up that rear wheel carrier! Thumbs Up

Only kidding, car did its job perfectly in protecting its occupants. Glad everyone walked away safely.

I looked at taking off the wheel carrier - it's actually bent at the point where it fixes to the chassis so I think that's not an option

The question now is what's next...options are
Old disco 4 but will have to be diesel (they don't import the v8 here)
Disco 5 (but needs to be good off-road so not sure if it makes sense)
New Defender (but costs a fortune)

Had to fix a flat tyre. Not a big deal you say? Usually no. But being at a cabin in the mountains with only the good old chocolate scissors in the back of the car? Not so fun. Had to jack it up and be creative for an axle stand for it to rest on while we drove off to get the tyre plugged.

Got to give credit to the local tyre shop, guy behind the counter said he was actually on vacation, but fixed it for us in fifteen minutes anyway. And balanced it properly Bow down

Well done on getting the tyre sorted. Like the makeshift axle stand. Isn't it worth carrying a full size spare when out in the wilds?
Take care

The full size is a summer tyre, that would have had me rolling down a mountainside like the guy on the previous page Shocked
Should be a winter one, that's safer in summertime.
And yes, bottle jack is on the shopping list, but it's always a long shopping list you have when you own a Disco Mr. Green (It has advanced a few places since yesterday tho)

D’oh.

Scotland 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Java BlackDiscovery 3

Driven it, lots!

We have successfully visited the entire family over 14 days, leaving from Latheron in the Far North of Scotland, we had a night in Carlisle, nearly a week in Clacton, Colchester and surrounding areas, a day in Coventry, a few days in Lincoln, a night in Perth on the way home and arriving back at Latheron at 11am this morning.

1450 miles point to point to point to point, plus farting about at each stop were probably on the thick end of 1800 miles!

Interestingly on Tesco juice (leg 1&2 ending in Clacton and trips about) we averaged 25.2mpg, on Morrisons juice (leg 3 to and around Lincoln) a rather lumpy and rough 23.2mpg, and on the run home (leg 4&5) I decided to give it a treat and put some BP Ultimate in and hit the heady heights of 28.6mpg! And boy does the old D3 like the premium juice. Smooth, quiet, better mpg and the possible placebo of a hint more power. Certainly happier to rev higher, quicker with a boot full off a roundabout.

Overall, success! Shame there’s no premium juice anywhere near home…
