door lock with keyless

had problems recently with the drivers door lock not locking and decided it was down to the lock mechanism
as i had same problem with my d3 and i know the actuators are a known weakness so bit the bullet and though id swap it out

got a new standard module from steve at advanced Thumbs Up

stripped the door down without too much hassle but realised as soon as i got the old one out that the keyless lock actuator is different to the standard module Big Cry

the standard one is 6W8A-21812-AE
the keyless one is 6W8A-21812-GD

the keyless part seems to be an add on to the bottom of the standard lock mechanism and i was wondering whether its possible to take it off of mine and fit the keyless bit to the new actuator but didnt want to end up with 2 non functioning locks and a pile of springs and bits .

has anyone done this or is it a no go and i should abaandon the idea and go back to steve with my tail between my legs Embarassed

As you have found the latch system is very different as it contains the fast acting actuator for the near-instantaneous unlocking of the door as you pull the handle.

Don't miss the additional wiring to the outside handle (for the sensor, antenna and lock button).

I've never done it but I understand that this part of the system is plug and play.

Funnily enough I just had this exact issue and can confirm that it's a relatively simple matter of four torx screws on the old unit and three on the new - the only tricky thing is how the lock/unlock latch goes together (and even that's not hard, you need to pop it in at an angle and slide it into place)

Take lots of pics of the two units first as you won't have a reference piece to hand once they are both in two parts, but also practice taking the old one apart and reassembling it before you undo the second unit, that way you do have a reference unit. The method of reassembly is identical for both units (other than a fourth screw, but that's just easy Smile )
