Double DIN depth/specification for aftermarket radio

Hi,

I have sorted all the electronics for a new double DIN Pioneer AVIC-77DAB and a nexus7 in the nav position.
Putting the Pioneer back there wasn't space to push it all the way back though.

I have seen multiple posts and pictures of pioneer and similar radios all fitted well (I even checked the dimensions of the other radios).

Looking at it there is part of the plastic center mount that is in the way. No one has commented on having to cut this out the way though?!

Any comments on other peoples experience?

Next I'll post on my upgrades to the auto box brakes and lots of other bits when I have done this.
The Nexus 7 in the satnav looks great and works really well. Working on a 4x4 display for it as well for those interested (yes it looks possible!)

Mark

there Is a bit of plastic that runs across where the back of the dd unit goes. Just cut it out with a hack saw blade. I did mine about a year ago. Not creaks or rattles.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. I did wonder. Did you take it out to do it or leave it in place?

Once the next part is a nexus 7. I think a few people have done it already. Previously I used a full car pc but I think android auto and the various dash options like torque are better now.
Also I see there is a way of getting the 4x4 screen on it although currently a bit costly.

The Nexus output will be on a separate amp through the sat nav speaker on the dash which I may then also use for the hands free. So many options!

I also found that if you have the sat nav already in the car its not too hard to re-use all the aerials avoiding installing new ones which is sweet. Lots of adapters as "facra c" seems the standard in the d3.

a lot probably done before but seems good so far! Love the car it seems to get better and being a newbie to d3's i can see why people keep them going.

Just cut it in place.
The only problem I’ve had with my jvc unit is intermittent poor reception on fm. IID tool showing a fault:
Antenna, incorrect operation... not got around to looking at that as I don’t tend to bother with the radio unless there’s a match on and that’s MW.
Worth making sure you’ve got the correct antenna adaptor.
