I'm firmly in the GS camp ... most of the "toys" that are REALLY need can be added and you save yourself thousands of pounds.
You get the same brilliant car.
Contrary to what has been said above, if there was a meeting of GS owners discussing what toys are missing and unnecessary it would be a LONG meeting. Chris

Noticed you said you might like to add Cruise Control ... lots on the forum about this upgrade. It doesn't look to difficult.
I've bought the steering wheel switch to do the job. Cost just over £50 from TLO on this site.
I wonder how much Land Rover add on to the price of a vehicle to include this option ?? Chris

Absolutely true ! I'm a complete gadgeteer ...so toys are an imperative to maintain my attention span for more than a few minutes 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Hi Wiggs ... I'm a novice at this compared to you . By going for a GS, what upgrades will I miss out on? Chris

Just worth bearing in mind that a GS will always be valued as a GS, pretty much regardless of any options or extras specced up at time of purchase.
I moved from a 07 XS, manual with cloth to a 2010 XS auto with leather.
If I change this year it will depend on how the numbers crunch, hopefully for an HSE cos I love the Ivory leather with black carpets

Having gone from a MY10 GS to a MY12 XS and just ordered a MY13 XS, the big difference between the GS and XS for me is how much more comfy the seats are in the XS, don't know what it was about the seats in the GS but after about 3hrs I got back ache, drove to the Highlands this yr in the XS (about 9hrs from here) and felt great on arrival with no aches at all, so the extra ££s were worth it just for that. The only other bug bear on the GS was the inablilty to either dim or turn off the info display at night as it created alot of glare on the windscreen. Try both if you can and see what you think the XS is probably the best value for money in the range (if you can call 45k that), only thing I added on both were the Xenons as the halogens aren't that great to be honest. 2018 D5 3.0 HSE Lux

As a GS owner IMO the GS car delivers the best financial argument and some recent threads on this site identify that is the case. Fundamentaly for me, the GS gives me access to the discovery product approx every 3 years and essentially the most important part , the engine and transmition.
I would love an HSE but choose to spend my cash on other toys- lots of them😃
mickyd4 was that you in Weardale on Sunday in your new D4 GS , very nice car, you made an excellent snow plough! D4 3.0 SDV6 GS 13

I see a 62 Orkney GS with Folding mirrors bright pack is up for £35k with 4k on the clock and says it's their demo car, are these best avoided, judging by the lower price tag I assume so?

This is my first D3 a MY08 GS. This is without doubt the best car I have owned. Yes it would always be nice to own a top of the range whatever car you go for. However having fitted front fogs, roof rails, smooth leather steering wheel (TLO ), radio buttons, cruise control, Garmin Sat Nav + TV (D4 surround) and a RLD sump plate all for around £600 ish (what would all that cost if it left the factory with it) am I really missing anything. Only other thing I would like to add/change would be some 18" or 19" wheels in place of the 17's but would keep then for off road.
Suggestions for any other mods from fellow GS owners most welcome
Cheers
Andy

I went for a slightly used GS (7,000 miles, MY2012) and the only thing I miss a bit is cruise control. No sunroof - no leaks (I spent months fixing those on my old D2), leather - who cares, I've got nice canvas covers anyway, bluetooth and iPod are there, navigation is iPhone these days anyway... Mine came with bright pack, which was nice, and e-diff at the back - which was a must, and luckily mine had it.
To sum up: generally speaking, GS has everything you will need and nothing you may want But then again, having climbed out of a D2 into a D4 seems like skipping a century, although in reality it's only a decade...
