DPF Replacement

Our D4 at work has just been in and the garage quoted £5000 + to replace it along with other pipes.
Does the quote sound about right or is there a cheaper option??

Cheers BoBo Thumbs Up

I've seen replacement DPF's on ebay for a couple of hundred quid. No knowledge of them though. I've also heard of a DPF cleaning system, which I think works on an exchange system, again a few hundred quid from memory.

Usual problem with a DPF is it gets blocked with soot. Once it gets beyond the point of recovery via a regen, it needs to be baked in an oven for a while to convert the soot.

I wouldn't have thought it should cost that much.

Short journeys and ignoring warning messages cause blocked DPFs.

This is probably the list you want to see the pricing for - without a garage markup, I mean https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID018447

Still, the garage has baked in their work hours in the parts price, I assume? Or would the work still be extra?

Thats got to be getting on for half the value of the car, utter madness.
Cant be that common (certainly dont recall any recent threads on here) so 2nd hand might be the way to go.

I think it’s beyond fixing or cooking 😩

Can it just be a straight swop?
What about the MAF filter/sensor?

What made you take it in to Kwik Fit? As said, surely a DPF from a crashed or blown engine scrapper is better. Same for the rest of the exhaust system.

Was it an accident that damaged the exhaust?

£4K for a DPF! I wouldn't buy an air freshener from Crapfit.

Dpf is a filter so a serviceable item fl2 yesterday £2700 d4 should be around £3500 so Kwik fit dearer than main dealer! Getting common now life seems to be around 6/7 years loer mileage failing first doing around around 10 a month we are near a big city so more chance of of needing add than a crank failing!

Dragging up this old thread as I've just been quoted £2500 for new DPF as well (+ fitting). No lights on at all but found after my local Indy replaced the failed High Pressure Fuel Pump. They tried soaking it for 3 days but not cleared. This is getting VERY expensive!
