There is a pesky fox that has chewed through the DPF sensor cable, creating a Restricted Performance notice on the dashboard.
I had the cable replaced, however, within a week of fitting the new cable and sensor, the pesky fox has chewed through the cable again!
Is there anyway of protecting this cable not just from the fox but the elements in general.
Alternatively I could buy the fox a chew toy from the pet shop.

have you got Ad-blue on your d4 ?? That is the 3rd fox eating wires i have hear about in as many weeks...the others were vans not landies

There's no ad blue. But i'm surprised that the cable is as exposed as it is. Given it's supposed to have off road capabilities.
The garage said he'd had 3 in that week with foxes chewing through cables and even a brake line!

My mate made up some aluminium under body trays, the don't exist to buy for his brand new van so he had to make them up. You can get sump / gear box guards for the disco
The problem with those sensors is you don't want to cut the wires, but a braided brake hose over the cabling may be a cheaper alternative.....

| Fox or Rat? Happened today! |

Hi, are you certain it's a fox doing it and chewing through the cables etc. I only say that as I went out today to my Merc Benz A200 AMG and opened the boot!
F  hell, a rat had chewed all the way through the inner lining via possibly the wheel arch and wrecked havoc on the seats and boot area. I was on the phone to my insurers and he said yup we've had it a lot, have I looked in the engine compartment as they seem to be attracted to the aircon wiring and the coating that's on the wires.
He thinks that it's happened so often that Mercedes Benz must know about it by now?
Opened the bonnet and sure enough, rat everywhere and a puddle of fluids on the under tray, more damage!
So I'd say it was more likely a rat than a fox, unless of course you've seen it. Will be trapping the later, the damage is unreal!
UPDATE:
Now apparently in the makers infinite wisdom, they coat certain wires with a SOY based coating which rats and mice absolutely love to feed on! When design world meets real world I guess!

You could be right, might be a rat. I haven't actually seen the fox nibbling on the cables.
However, there are a family of foxes that camp on my drive every night, so I just assumed.
Anyway, my local garage won't repair it again, as the damage is now so severe.
They suggested taking it to main land rover service centre or get an auto electric specialist to take a look.
Either way it's going to cost a small fortune.
Though I'm dumbfounded as to why an off roader (in theory) would have any cables open to the environment, that could easily be snagged on rocks, forest debris etc.
All style and no substance in my opinion.
My disco 3 was a pile of as well. Even land rover couldn't figure out the problems with that heap of junk. So being the idiot that I am I traded that in for another pile of

Hi, I'm a country boy through and through and although foxes are on your driveway, I'd put money on it that it's rats that have chewed through it. A rat will also use a 12v live cable to sharpen its teeth on, we've had plenty of quad bikes positive wires munched by them!
This time of year after the harvest has taken place, many rats move in from the fields to warmer areas ready for winter, and find their food closer to us. You're never that far away from them, but rarely see them.
I wonder what the cable you mention is coated with, it might be the same as my Merc, SOY!
Not the nicest thing to do with them, but maybe buy a couple of traps and put them against "long runs" of garages or walls near your vehicle, the damage they can do is remarkable!
