Dreaded a Transmission Fault
Hi all. Over the last few days I have been having the issue where the dashboard lights up and I get several messages about transmission fault, parking brake fault and suspension lowered. The letter F appears in the gearbox window. Turning off and on again clears the issue.
I have narrowed it down to it only happening when going up a long hill near my house with the AC on. Going up the hill with no AC is fine.
I replaced the battery last week and it stopped for a few days but now it is back.
It is going into my local garage tomorrow but I wanted to see what you guys thought. Sounds possibly like an alternator issue?!

Do you have a code reader? I had almost the same happening for me and yours sounds also very much like the brake light switch.
I wouldn’t want to speculate alternator without diagnostics.

Hi,
Also check your brake light bulbs, mine did a similar trick caused by a blown bulb!Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

Same issue
Without wishing to hijack the thread, I have had the same issue though I can’t narrow it down to a particular set of circumstances. I have replaced a bulb and the brake light switch to no avail. Battery and alternator only a year old.
I took mine in to a local indy to have the codes read but it only revealed what the mechanic described as U (communication) codes. Apparently the cause of the fauly was not stored. He advised me to bring it in again next time the fault occured without switching off the ignition. So nearly 2 weeks later it throws a wobbler again on a stretch of dual carriageway. The problem is that I was stuck in gear and too far away to negotiate lots of junctions and roundabouts whilst being stuck in 6th so I was forced to pullover and reastart. Hey presto, fault cleared!
Its a catch 22; I need the fault to occur to get it diagnosed but I’ve no clue as to when and where its going to occur.
Any advice very welcome 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE

Update
After an almost repeat performance today whereby numerous faults, lights and bongs appeared I managed to drive to the local Indy garage.
With the engine still running and the live data available, a ‘cross articulation’ fault was found. Basically, the height sensors needed to be recalibrated. This was done and I was able to drive home without incident........so far!2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE
