A door left ajar flattened the battery? Sounds like that bit of software needs an update. A simple RC network would solve that-but no...
Good work LR - you successfully updated the Disco3 and still managed to stuff up the design.

There have been a lot of D4s with battery issues. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I thought the interior lights timed out, even with a door ajar, to prevent this? They do on my D3

It seems pretty easy to keep the computer activated (eg, leaving key in ignition "OFF" position, door open but lights off) without realizing it. It's why I always make sure there is a backup battery or generator available should some glitch discharge the battery. Alas, a backup battery seems a bit more difficult in a D4 (one of the many reasons I'll happily keep my D3 until it rusts away - or I rust away first ) Jim Dowell - D4 HSE TDi, 12,000 hydraulic winch & hidden winch mount, MTRs, TyreDog, Traxide 2 x aux battery system, fixed air compressor, Dolium roof rack, MitchHitch.

One other thought - maybe the testers programmed the lights to stay on - without knowing it.
Given this was a "Drivel" review - I wouldn't put it past them!
I can imagine what they said: "Let's really test the capabilities of 4WD vehicles - and take them on a race track!" Come on... what idiots are they!?

can you not put an aux battery in a D4?
...and I can't for the life of me see why you would design the computer to stay on when someone has turned the vehicle off??
Mind you I can't for the life of me understand why cars now have the door open and keys in ignition warning? 2012 MY13 SDV6 SE D4 Ipanema Sand with Almond leather

I think there is a software issue with the D4. There have been a few on this site who have had flat batteries.
IFAIK the D4 has will not charge until the engine is running at so many revs, so not to put extra strain on the engine and save fuel. This may be caysing problems. The D3 would always top up the battery whenever engine was running.
And you will need to make a new bracket for the D4 second battery as LR have filled the spare battery compartment with the transmission module that was behind the main battery.
Drivesafe is working on it. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Ken, show us some photos of the dual bettery system?
D4 battery is the same as a D3. The problem is that when left with the door ajar, the computer still thinks someone is going to come back and close it. It then proceeds to shut down other systems such as steering , immobilises the engine but remains active. Also on these tests the cars spend a lot of time sitting there with all of the doors open and people fiddling with the radio, and other accessories.
The D4 ingntion system shuts off if a significant time lapses between pressing the ingintion button and depressing the brake for starting. It gets to a point that it waits for this to happen and assumes you have left the vehicle.
When that happens the ingnition cycle needs to be restarted by shuting ignition off and then on again with the brake peddle depressed the second time for restarting. or the vehicle needs to be locked and then unlocked.
It takes some time to learn these little perculiarities Disco 4 Sept 09
