Driving Lamp - Flooded

Saw some condensation in one of my LR driving lamps today. On closer inspection, there seems to be about 1½" of water in it!...

Obviously got in there when we went through the ford at Salisbury. Should I assume that these are sealed units and water should not be getting in there?

I haven't tried to see if it still works....don't know if I should..

Should be sealed - don't switch them on as the cold water sloshing around onto the lamp could cause it to explosively fail Shocked

Mine were the same, almost half full.

took em off drained and blew a hair dryer inside. Neighbours must have thought I was a right tit, blow drying my lights on the driveway Rolling with laughter

I would have though they would have been water proof. Confused

I have the LR lamps. They all unscrew and lamp unti comes out, you can then get the bulb out, which is where the water gets in.

Are there also sealed units available ??

Mine are both 1/2 full too!

***Hot Tip*** never throw away the small sachets of silica gel that are packaged with almost every gadget you buy. If you get condensation in a lamp, just pop a sachet in the case to dry it out.

G'Day Gareth,
I would not put the whole bag of silica gel in as the paper bag will probably burst into flames with the temp. Embarassed
I would go for a single silica tablet or just pour a bit of the gel into the lights.
Cheers,
David.

SWMBO knows I am a right tit she caught me 'cooking' my lamps ( gas regulo 1 50degrees c ) in the oven. When they were completely dry I made some rubber boots out of old quad bike inner tube which was a tight fit on the silvered lip around the bulb holder, fitted the bulb and then cable tied both ends tight. Will have to see if I get condensation problems but they shouldn't let water in again Smile

LOL, in the USA, blowing your lights out means something a bit different, and much less pleasant!
