Thanks Guys
Catweasel I have now replied to your PM Thanks.
The reason I was looking at an Anderson plug and not taking a feed from the white plug was the amperage draw. With 220 Ah worth of batteries in the camper trailer. At a moderate discharged level the current draw to re-charge will exceed the wiring and fuses of the installed system (fuse is 15 A and wiring is real thin) hence the 50A anderson plug and minimum 6 mm2 cable direct from the car charge system. Drivesafe what I badly worded the first time was:
In running a cable from the car to a trailer using an ignition cut-out solenoid for isolation at ignition off are there any special issues with a D3 that I should be telling the Auto electrician or can he wire it the way he wires anything else. Is it wired from the charge system or the battery??

Hi Steve, in any vehicle but particularly with the D3 or RRS, it’s better to make the power supply connection at the cranking battery.
With all vehicles, the cranking battery acts as a surge and spike suppressor, protecting the alternator, but as the D3 also monitors the voltage at the battery itself, any additional load at the battery, caused by your auxiliary battery being down a bit ( or more ), will be catered for by the alternator thinking ( metaphorically speaking ) that the cranking battery needs more charging and will act accordingly.

Sorry for the delay,
yes the black cover fitted back on after installing the optima yellow top (see gallery) and seems fine. Those covers are a bit of a b d to get on right at the best of times, but 2nd battery didn't matter.
fitting the isolator unit under the brake lines was a complete buhher tho.

Hi nikademus, not wrong about replacing the covers and I’ve done it some many time now that I started to remove the foam rubber seals, so after a bit of experimenting I’ve found that you can put them back very easily by first rotating the cover into place at the back edge first.
If you are replacing the driver’s side cover ( auxiliary battery side ), rotate the cover about 45 degrees clockwise and hold the cover down at an angle towards the back.
Next, tuck the left side rear corner under the bodywork and slide the corner to the left as you twist the rear edge of the cover into position, making sure the small leg on the engine bay side of the cover ends up on the outside of the battery compartment’s wall. Then just push the front edge down till the two tabs lock.
The other side works exactly the same only start with the cover rotated counter clockwise.

Hi Guys. Is the bracket used an Land rover item, or is it an after market unit. If so, where can I obtain the bracket to be installed.

Big Kev
I have just installed a dual battery charging system from Traxide Tronics.(see post below) Easy to install & good follow up from Tim. I have used an Optima yellow top battery.
My problem now is how to get a dedicated +ve/-ve to an outlet at the rear to run an Engel.
Can anyone advise me on the easiest route/way to achceive this?

PJJ, if you look down at the firewall behind and slightly to the right of the aux battery/abs box, you'll see a rubber grommet. You can go through this into the cabin above the drivers footwell. I used a skewer to get through and locate the otherside as you have to punch through the sound matting in the footwell.
From there you can thread behind the dash to one side or other and then along the channels under the door scuff plate thingys.
Theres threads here somewhere that explain how to get the various trim panels off.
Boof, I don't know the part number but I do know that LR has about 10 sets in stock in Aust at the mo. It'ts not a Aust item so they don't keep too many. Have a nice day!

Hi Boofrmb, the bracket’s LR part number is YJF 500100, this is for the right side ( driver’s side ) battery bracket.
The long bolt’s LR part number is XYG 500051 and the short bolt’s LR part number is XYG 500061 and you need one of each.

once you locate where it enters the best thing to do is to cut a cross in the matting, similar to the ones for the studs. it makes it easier for future use when you decide you want to put in other things.
