Dual Battery

Hi,

I am thinking of fitting a second battery but I am worried that it could potentially damage the alternator. I had one on my Vito and the alternator died twice, I took it out and the alternator was fine after that. I was ether unlucky, or my theory is that if the LB is really low / flat and the relay kicks in then there would be a large demand from the LB from the alternator.

Anyone got any theories?

Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for that. I had seen it but I have one albeit a cheap one, but I am thinking of THIS

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291695706724

Lower price and it's new. But first off I want to make sure it wont knacker the alternator.

Cheers

Why do you feel you need a second battery? In many cases its an "overkill" unless you're parked up for a very long time!

I keep a jumper pack permanently plugged in to a charge socket and have fitted a decent 100Ah battery.
I have never needed to use the pack on the D3's despite long periods when I'm away, but it gets plenty of use for other motorists. Thumbs Up

T Max System

I have recently taken a T-Max out of mine:

Yours for £50 including extra battery strap, cables etc.

Worked faultlessly or 2 years, the display gives a nice bit of comfort as to state of batteries etc. Got me out of a jam once, and used the spare battery to jump start other vehicles several times.

I have 1 main starter and 2 leisure batteries on mine. Leisure batteries get heavy use, coffee machine, microwave, tv, laptop and get deepcyled probably about 150 times per year. Vehicle is 2007 with 147,000 miles. From what I can tell (FSH) it has the original alternator. I've had my setup for 2 years (40,000 miles) and alternator still going strong.

You'll be fine. I use an automatic voltage split charge system.

Have a Traxide fitted to mine, been on since I purchased the car in 2010. It did fail once (after about 4 years) but I contacted Traxide and he fixed it free of charge. I use mine to run the battery for my fridge (Engel) and any extra lights etc so I can use them when camping without worrying about flattening my starting battery.
