Dull knocking on rural roads

Hi, my D3 which is now 5 years old and has 85k on the clock has developed a dull knock on uneven roads. Been to dealers and they have replaced both upper and lower rear bushes! However, whilst they were obviously badly worn and contributing to the noise I can still hear a dull sound which appears to be around the gearbox/engine bay area. Have looked under vehicle but cannot see anything which looks worn.

Has anyone experienced similar and any ideas, I guess the vehicle needs a ramp to investigate properly which means a trip to the dealer again, but they keep saying they cannot find anything? problem is the dealer is in a city and suspect the roads are too good for them to hear it!

Great forum and keep up the good work, especially now several of these are getting older!!

Thumbs Up

There was a TSB for a steering column problem causing a knock at low speeds. Search "steering knock".

I just cleared that this weekend by fitting the ARB shimes - contact The Large One, he normally has some in stock - they are quite simple to fit and make for a nice quiet driving experience Thumbs Up
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
