It's ironic that I started this thread, over three years ago, & have just had an earth strap failure !
My "get you running again" fix was to buy 2 braided earth battery cables from Halfords and run them between the battery, and convenient points on the engine & on the body.
I didn't attempt a permanent fix for the problem - I left that to A C Landrover in Waterlooville.

Having seen a number of posts about earth strap failures It happened to me this week on my 2013 D4
Unfortunately All of my spares were still packed from moving house and at the back of a big pile of sh*t so checked with a jump lead from an earth to the engine and she started without a problem so I had a quick run down to the local factors and bought more earth cables (couldnt remember the size so ended up with 3 different ones)
If you havent had it happen yet and you have a D4, buy a spare lead and fit it before it becomes a problem when you are in a hurryMust stop buying shiny toys....

Thanks for sharing. Can you advise what size you used and how you ran it? I'm gathering info for the inevitable.
CheersGary

From memory it's 35mm cable and about 17" long. Clive at CDS gave me the cable and he suggested not using the LR part for obvious reasons. I've left my temp connection from the engine to the battery in place too, just in case.Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey
