The small battery in the pic is the auxiliary battery, don't think it has much to do with the stop/start or engine cranking.

I've had my D4 for a little under two weeks, the stop/start didn't work when I bought the car, didn't notice on the test drive tbh. My local indi LR specialist replaced the main battery and back charged the supplying dealer as they were over 250 miles away its worked since then.battery cost £200 fitted 3 year warranty.

Ive reconditioned the old battery and its been on charge for nearly 50 hours and its still not reached the trickle charge state ........

My understanding is that the second small battery keeps electrical systems going when stop/ start kicks in. It does not do any cranking of any sort. If the battery is dead/ low voltage and recharging doesn't work, then replacing it is required for stop/ start to work. If main bat is reading 12.7v then it doesn't sound like that has a problem.

My stop start was not working and the dealer replaced the main battery under the extended warranty. It was then OK for awhile but stopped again some 2 months ago. I found the small battery was not holding a charge ( reading 10 volts). I replaced it and now it works perfectly. The battery cost just under £50 delivered from Tanya batteries. I believe both batteries need to be in good order for the system to operate.

MY main battery is testing 96% and 12.7V

The start stop battery is dead. Battery charger can't even detect it and it did on Sunday.

My start/stop battery failed only this week, giving an orange warning light an message of "Start Stop Unavailable" The battery was showing less than 10 volts and the Ctek wouldn't recognise the battery.

Purchased a replacement battery from http://www.generaltraffic.co.uk/

Collected the Exide EK151 battery from their Warrington branch (17 in stock) for £48 with 3 year guarantee. The original battery bares the name of both Landrover & Exide.

Fitting was simple, but I removed the red +ve lead at both ends for ease of access and to avoid it dropping down and shorting out as it remains live, being fed from the main battery. The "bit in the middle" is a fuse. You need a long extension bar for your socket as the battery has a single retaining bolt holding down the metal strap.

The start/stop function also started to function again. Thumbs Up

I had my stop start battery swapped under warranty. The main starter battery failed at 2.5 years old and was changed by LR assist then a few weeks later the stop start function became unavailable and it had the other battery done too under warranty.

Looks like my stop/start had been switched off in the CCF as it wasn't working but there were no warnings on the dash but have just enabled another item in my CCF and the warning light is now showing on the dash.

Did get this back though from the IID tool so not sure if its just the battery that's knackered as its referring to the dual battery actuator being stuck or is this what happens when the battery fails?

Does stop/start not working impact on the new MoT? I hope not.

My start stop does not work and it passed its first mot at main dealers in November.Start stop never worked properly since I bought the car in June 2015 with 3,000 miles on the clock.Dont like it anyway so not missed,as for saving the planet I leave that to others Whistle
