EGR blanking & Insurance cover

Hi
If you fit blanking plates on ERG, should/ would you inform your insurance company? Will they call it a mod to change the power output of the engine?
Question

IMHO no !

It does not really impact on the rated kw output, just improves the engines breathing, also negligible effect on emissions (according to my MOT test results)

IMHO you MUST inform your insurers of ALL modifications.

You could ask the rhetorical question in advance - possibly of other insurers to gauge the market view.

I want to be covered come what may so I declare all modifications; the declaration for my XK150 & MG B GT V8 runs to nearly 4 pages of close printed A4.

Which insurance company do you use? I've found that some only allow a limited number of mods

I'm insured through Footman James - the broker is important.

I have a multi-car policy for my 4 cars & declare every single modification, including different size wheels summer/winter tyres. This year the policy if with RSA, but the insurer varies year to year depending where FJ can get the best terms.

My premium has only been loaded once - for the BAS remap, which resulted in an increase of 8% of the premium element associated with the Disco3.

I'm covered for off-road use, providing it is "not competitive".

I've been with FJ for many years - it may help that I also have a number of policies with AoN their parent company - but I doubt it.

Only one claim many years ago for wind damage - settled immediately without any problems.

Why would you feel you need to tell them? Is it the fear of them not paying out if something happens?

Can't see how blanking your egr valves would ever be an issue with an insurance company, it's the same as people asking about remaps and insurance company's.

I am an honest person, whether with HMRC, Insurers or otherwise.

Sorry to get "technical" but it is established that it is the insured's fundamental duty to disclose all material facts and surrounding circumstances that could influence the decision of the insurer to offer cover, or the terms under which cover is offered (premium, excesses etc..) non-disclosure or partial-disclosure gives the insurer an opportunity to void the policy & walk away.

In the event of a claim, third parties will be looked after, but your losses will not be covered, and you will be sued by the insurers for what they have paid out + costs & administration expenses. I am aware of cases where this has happened leading to the bankruptcy of the policy holder, and criminal proceedings for driving uninsured.

I would hate anyone to be in this situation.
