EGR live values fault?
Friendly orange light in the shape of an engine has revisited the instrument cluster and my IID tool reports EGR problems
I thought I would monitor what was going on using the live data whilst driving.
All I get is zeroes for both command values, ~17% position for bank0 and ~5% for bank1 no matter whether cruising, accelerating or on overrun
Has anyone got this to work?
IID BT tool (firmware latest) and Android phone with latest app.
I hope that it's just finger trouble!

Ive never checked them whilst driving but sure mine sit at 5 percent give or take a bit at idle.

Have had same issue and few weeks later the left egr locked itself completely getting my engine in limp mode.
resetting it by the tool permitted to bring the car at the garage with both egr locked at 5% but engine running fine.
On my Euro4 model with DPF egrs are mandatory, on Euro3 you can blanked them and forget!- Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

I have the same issue. EGR 0 position => 28%, EGR 1 position => Always 5%
If i give full throttle for a while, EGR Goes to 1 % and stays there.
The EGR 0 and 1 Command are always 0%
Once I got the orange engine warning light and a fault code P0489 + Error message "Engine system fault.
Afterwards only the error message on the LCD and no fault code in the IIDTool.
When I hook up my friend's NanoCom, he gets the fault code P0489.
I'm searching quite a time to find normal readings of live values to determine what is wrong. Blanking is not an option as I have the Euro 4 model.
The egr's only work up to a certain engine temp. if the engine gets to hot the dont move, you need to try and read the values from cold..

I already did, no difference between cold and normal woking temp.
I have saved a lot of data. The problem is that I don’t have reference values. That way, it’s dificult to figure out what is really wrong.
For example, should the command value be the same as the valve position?
And, bank 0 valve, is it the left or right one?
I’m not yet experienced with the iid tool and have to learn a lot.

@ChrisLR3 Why not get on to Pete Bell at BAS and get the egr's deleted by a software patch, you have the tool to do it. You can forget about them then.

Yeah I don’t have confidence in all the live values reported.
The car needs to be warm, driving along at mid throttle for them to open .
Maybe you should read the voltage position of the working one first (with a
Meter at EGR or ecu)
You should see it open and close at ignition on and off

Hello,

I contacted BAS and I'm waiting for their answer.
As for now my conclusion is that EGR bank 0 is not working correct.
Now I have to figure out on what side of the engine is bank 0?

So this confuses me as the cilinder numbering is different in the workshop manual.IIDTool BT G3

I can confirm Bank 0 is on the right (seeing from inside the car) (UK driver's side - EU passenger side)
I have the same figures as you and the same error too.
My right egr is stuck open at 92% and 2 days ago it moved back to 83%. Not sure why.
My left egr is constant open on 5% never moved.
I used my iCarsoft to track realtime values and they are (supposed) to be accurate. At the moment i am running with right egr blanked with an emergency coin (that was the only way to continue driving at the moment - it is actually running better than before)
I suppose the engine light only lights up after 2 or 3 consecutive faluts as whe. I reset my it only lihhts again after turning off and on the engine a few times (i suppose that is when the ecu does the ckeck)
Below a certain value of % it shows the code but not the engine light.
Why you cannot blank the egr on your Euro 4???

I analyzed the behavior of the EGR valves since a few days.
Am I wrong when I state that the EGR valves are mostly closed?
Reading the different posts on the forum, I conclude that the 5% is the closed value. (correct me if I'm wrong) The higher percentage is more opening.
My EGR 1 is mostly at 5% and goes to 92% when the engine is shut down and the key removed. The EGR 0 goes to Max 15% (In that case the next start up the fault appears on the LCD and the car gets in limp mode)
When the fault is cleared and the engine runs, both valves stay on 5% and the COMMAND values stay unchanging on 0%.
When there is no fault, the EGR values follow the COMMAND values. In some conditions I see that
the valves are opening to Max 9%.
My conclusion so far is that I have to replace the EGR 0 valve.
I can blank My Euro 4 engine if I change the ECU software (BAS Patch) I'm not sure if I have to delete the DPF in that case.
But In Belgium our bright politicians are thinking about changing the MOT procedures to detect whether there are things changed to the exhaust system...
In any case, I want the system working correct before blanking to be sure that I can always go back without trouble.

I don't think your EGR goes to 92% when the engine is OFF... i think that when the engine is OFF ignition key is off, the ecu is off and you no longer has live data from it (that happens to my disco at least). After some minutes with engine off i get a message saying module not available.
At least your egrs are working (and mostly closed).
EDIT:
If you connect your diagnostic tool and turn on the key to II (just before the ignition) select live values for the EGR command and "real position". you will see that at the start the valves should go from 0% to 90% and back to 0%. (at least that is what happened to me in temp below 5C) And suppose that is why sometimes I get error in both EGR and sometimes just in one. Yesterday, both where stuck open, I turned off and on again, and bank 1 behaved, whereas bank 0 .
