Hong Kong 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 5 Seat Auto Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

Dear all I am in a remote area , Hong Kong , have a 7A tdv6 base model, after reading many posts , I think with proper tools and parts I may be ready to replace both egr valves diy. Is there any chance that I can just blank with plates? Will base model with cool Spring goes into limp mode ? In terms of difficulties how to compare bellautos complete blanking removal of buffer fly and update software vs replace egr valves? Thanks in advance for your valuable advice ... Thanks. I do want the engine light gone!

Blanking the EGRs is quite easy, with a GAP iid tool, the blanking plates from Bells + the software delete from them too, also if you need assistance bells autos are the lads, I don't know the time difference between here and Hong Kong but it would be easyer for you to do the delete when Bells are a work the maps come back from them very quick

Another broken EGR valve

Car has been running fine since last EGR-valve dubbelswap. 3 1/2 years and almost 90 000 km / 56 000 miles is a fair outcome I guess Rolling Eyes . Valeo OEM G-cat valves and oil- and filterchange every 10 000 km / 6000 miles. Mainly high way speeds. Changed both valves again although only left one was faulty. And as for many others it was a bit clogged but the fault turned out to be a broken rod inside the valve. Also a bit of moisture. No surprise... Confused

A bit lucky in the end when the outer screw on the right hand valve was seized. Couldn´t get it off and finally the torx thread was scrap.Had to saw off the head of the screw with a blade... twice... Finally the valve came off including the cut off screw. I don´t evan want to dream of a seized inner bolt... Big Cry A bit of copper grease used will help next time. Razz

Mighty proud though. A dubbel EGR-valve swap by myself.

/Martin

I’m psyching myself up to do this!

I’ve been living with an EGR fault for some time that so far seems intermittent, occasionally throws up the Engine light and then turns its self off or I read the code and clear it. No performance issue just an annoying light.

Mine is also an 07 plate just wondering if anyone has the part numbers for the bolts to replace the T30 Torx bolts and could anyone recommend either the most up to date version of my EGR’s as I understand there’s been improvements? Or a decent aftermarket pair?

I will be doing the work myself so I think it should be cheaper for me to do a replacement than going down the blanking and remapping route.

Cheers for your help!

Hi based on the age I'm assuming yours is a D3 and I've read that you dont need to recap the D3 if you blank the EGR. I am planning to do mine this weekend weather permitting.

Just to bump this thread.

My EGR/EGR’s are playing up on my 2007 GS.

I’m fully aware of what a pain 07> is.. Sad

Now, if I did blank the EGR’s, does it solve the drivability issues, and only leave you with a light on? Or will having the light on causing it to go into a limb mode state? If it’s just a light on the dash, but the Disco drives nice again, then I can deal with that.

Thanks!

I don’t know the answer, but I replaced both on our 07 SE this week. Hopefully they will last a few years now.
One thing I did notice, the live values are very different with 2 new valves, compared to when one of them was sticking, I think the ecu must make fuelling compensations depending on the info it receives from the valves. So even when blanked, if the valve actuators are sticking it might affect performance.

Brilliant - thanks for the reply! I appreciate that.

Did you change both EGR’s? I think this is what I’m going to do now.

Do you have a link which EGR’s you fitted? Are the eBay ones up to the job?

Thank you Smile

They both came from eBay and are Valeo valves 700422 for left and 700423 for right.
Due to poor troubleshooting by me! I thought “bank 0” , which was my faulty valve, would be the left side so changed that side first. It turns out “bank 1” is the left! Sad
The removed valves were both Valeo, not sure if they were original though, we have had the car for 4 years and I have no record of them being changed before.

I bought the cheaper...

Lasted a year on my 2008 D3 so went the blank and mapped route. Don't forget to butterfly on the inlet Thumbs Up

Light didn't upset it, as drove it for a week blanked before getting the remap done.

That’s good to know! I might just blank them and see how I get on with my 2007. I don’t mind having the dash light on, as long as it drives fine.

Where did you get the map done? Looks like your in Wales also Smile

What do you mean by butterfly? Remove the EGR butterflies?

There is a butterfly valve on the inlet manifold, closes off to force the air to be circulated though from egr...

Hopefully I've attached the link correctly below to a guide.

As for the Mapping, I used an independent fella Chad from "Power Maps" who use a map from quantum tuning - he's a mobile technician who is really good... Based in Pembrokeshire.

Will dm his details if you want?

I would reccommed you use blanks that can be fitted leaving the pipework in place Thumbs Up
