EGR's need replacing

Been advised that I need to have my EGR's replaced on 46,000 miler 06 model year car. Dealer quoting £450. I have read a lot about subject here and considering having them blanked. Not technically minded myself so can anyone recommend a specialist in South Wales (or a bit further afield) to do this job?

£450 Shocked Shocked Shocked

Get a blanking kit from BAS and do it yourself or get a mate who's handy with a spanner to do it. It's not difficult. There are some instructions here to give you an idea what's involved: http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...0SMALL.pdf

Hi, sorry to jump in on the thread.

How common is the EGR problem on the D3? I currently have a diesel astra and the EGR is a very common fault. I currently take mine off every 3k and clean the gunk out with Carb cleaner. I was also a member of an owners club but no one yet has found a way to blank off the EGR effectively as when they do it it constantly throws up an EML.

With these kits on the D3, is an EML displayed after fitting it and do they drive any better once fitted?

Thank you for your help Very Happy Smile

I've just bought a blanking kit, arrived in 3 days!

These problems are very common DS, loads of people have blanked them off in various ways!

When blanked off they will not show an error message if the EGRs are not faulty.

Blanking them off the way that most of us do will not stop them from degrading further, but on earlier D3s (MY05 + MY06) it will not cause any error/fault messages.

On later D3s (MY07+) with the EURO IV engine it will.

I've got a BAS kit to blank mine off and apparently they do drive a bit better, but also consume a bit more.

My own opinion is that on a MY05 or MY06 it's not such a bad thing to either:

a) blank them off earlier to prevent problems at a later stage and getting stuck somewhere in the rain
b) blank them off when they fail if you can't be bothered replacing them

But on newer EURO IV D3s, it's not such a win-win situation.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up
