Electrical fire in passenger footwell |
|
Today i was driving in the town at 30mph when i smelt smoke, the car in front looked fine and so i looked around for burning but after a few seconds i could see smoke in the passenger foot well it was getting thicker very quickly. I pulled over and when i opened the door flames shot up from the footwell to the roof, i ran around opened the passenger door and pulled the bonnet catch and using a metal bar from the jack handle i forced the positive lead off the battery terminal. by this point the car was full of thick black choking smoke and i could see smoke starting to come from behind the engine then red flames were coming out and the thick black smoke was stopping the traffic. Somebody came out with a powder fire extinguisher and i used most on the engine and managed to do foot well flames too.
All the wires in the engine bay now have no plastic insulation and are just burned bare metal and the only electric thing that works is the central locking, no lights or ignition.
I really spent a lot of time on this vehicle keeping it in excellent condition as i used it off road regular for work.
I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and what could have caused it
