electronic brake Is it ok to do this |

Can I leave the D4 in drive and operate the electronic brake at the same time. In other words come to a stop at traffic lights and just hold the vehicle on the hand break with the rotary dial still in drive ?

Yes. Meant to do that.
When ready to go you can even press throttle lightly and park brake will automatically release

I wish more drivers would do this - means if you're front of the queue you get away quickly (thus not delaying those behind while shifting from N into gear), and also you avoid sitting on the brake pedal all the while the traffic lights are red (which shines red brake lights into the face of the driver behind) !!
It's especially relevant in most Discos since the brake lights are high up - this is GOOD in emergencies, means others behind in fast traffic know ASAP when someone up front is braking; however it's not so good when sitting (as above) in traffic queues, esp. at night.
Must read Highway Code again and remind myself what is the official advice .........

This is an interesting question.
I don’t know what the official ‘Highway Code’ answer to this is, but would be interested to see it.
The first time I drove an automatic was when the MD of a company I was working for 35 odd years ago asked me to drop him off and collect him from a pub lunch in his Ford Granada.
What he taught me I’ve just always gone along with because it makes so much sense to me, although of course EPBs and auto release wasn’t a thing then.
Stop at the junction, always into Neutral, then use the handbrake, or if it looks like it will be a really short wait use the footbrake.
His reasons for going into Neutral, not Park, or staying in Drive, were twofold.
If something happens to you, medical episode, foot slips off the brake, being distracted etc, the car isn’t going to drive itself into the path of other traffic.
If you are hit from behind whilst stationary with the gearbox in Drive it could cause the above and the car drive itself forward, even knocking the handbrake off.
If you are hit from behind whilst stationary with the gearbox in Park the force of the impact will be driven through the park pin in the gearbox, and that bodywork repair will need a gearbox rebuild adding to the cost.
All cars have high level brake lights these days that are in the face of the driver behind you. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

This is what I was taught when I took a driving test in the USA in the late 60's in an automatic car.
I still do it today.

You get away just as quickly if you are in "N" with the EPB on - when the lights go to red/amber to go into "P" & go - just as quickly, only quicker if you are an amber-gambler.

Using the EPB rather than footbrake avoids creating hotshots on the discs and thus warping.
My indie was very clear on this every time he had to change the discs on SWMBO's VX Omega ... which only had a manual handbrake so never got the benefit. .
