Emergency Brake !?

I had a fantastic half day off-roading at the Ashford LRE centre and the instructor was brilliant.

One thing that intrigued me was the use of the Hand Brake Paddle as an emergency brake. I don't remember reading about this in the handbook, but I tried it a couple of times from about 50mph and it was impressive how quickly the car was stopped. I was a little cautious as holding up the paddle means you only have one hand on the steering wheel, but it worked well and the car stayed in a dead straight line, but it left me with one question:

When you apply the emergency brake do the brake lights come on? Does anybody know?

Yep - the brake lights come on. They also operate when you use HDC Wink

With an old fashioned handbrake, in an emergency, you could apply it gently and progressively, so are you saying that you can use the D3 handbrake like this. I thouhjt it was either on or off. Wont it lock the rear wheels (especially in the wet).

if you hold up the D3 park brake the vehicle performs an automatic emergency stop, applying all brakes and stopping the vehicle very efficiently.
