Engaging with people......
Watched the England match in central Brum last night and caught last train home to Stratford.
Train was pretty busy and everybody was on their phone, head down, carriage silent (I was on social media interacting with all my mates and general banter with those of Scots and Welsh variety ).
Not long into the journey and a guy shouts up "why not put phones down and all talk".
Had a great rest of journey and interesting talk with a girl who repped for a cider company, got details of a local painter and decorator, discussed the merits (or otherwise) of JLR and a skirmish into Brexit (with 'reps' from both sides - not as volatile as the D3 forum though ).
Should do this more often

Yes, they call this progress and I think it will only get worse. My son never calls anyone except us he'd much rather text/Whatsapp/Discord; my daughter is better she FaceTimes her mates and I don't think they are that unusual.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

My youngest daughter is 19, and from what I have seen of a lot of her "pals" she's the only one that seems to be able to hold a decent spoken conversation with anyone over 25.

I remember a time when talking to people was the norm! I'm not even that old (although SWMBO might not agree!) at 48. My kids are permanently glued to some sort of device, much to my annoyance. Richard

It’s a different world to the one we were brought up in.
Whilst we may hold dear face to face contact, they don’t and I am not sure you can or should change that. I appreciate that kids can be socially awkward outside that context, but it’s evolution.

is the opposite to evolution, devolution?
From a social perspective we do seem to be going backwards in quite a few areas not just communication. I'm thinking respect for others, values, to name but 2.
