Engine bay cleaning

To jet wash or not to jet wash? Bucket/sponge?, hose?.

Need to clean the engine bay and underneath of the bonnet - any tips or tricks or just don't bother?

yup, what for?? Laughing

I use a pressure washer on a low setting for the underneath of the bonnet and areas of the engine bay away from the magic black boxes. However I don't clean it I just remove excessive mud build up as I don't like the car smelling too much when it is warm Embarassed

Thumbs Up

I jet wash mine after off-roading engine bay and underside of bonnet, just don't point high pressure at fuse boxes etc, never had a problem.

I'm a bit wary of blasting water into connectors or past seals, so I just use a car-washing brush on the end of the hose for cleaning under the bonnet. I'd be very careful with a pressure washer because something that's designed to stay sealed when immersed in a couple of feet of water may not withstand direct pressure from a pressure-washer. Also I'm sure you know not to get the pressure washer too close to the radiator / intercooler fins as it can damage those.

Scotland

Spray and all purpose cleaner all over the (cold) engine bay. leave for a couple of mins, agitate all the areas with small brush, then either use an open ended hose, or a jet washer on low power or stand further back than doing the body.

Run engine for 5-10mins to help dry it off. Then dress it with some megs all season, AS highstyle, AG trim dressing or 303 aerospace. Thumbs Up

Should give you something like this Mr. Green

Thank JKP, I bow to your great knowledge.

I'm not looking for a showroom glow, more a 'crud riddence' job!.

I think there's most of Yarwell and Hogmoor washed up in there!!!

Neil, is this because you're tempted by the D4 and you've told the dealer it's never been offroad? Rolling with laughter

Best bet is an open ended hose then. Remove the grill before starting. A jet washer will push the Censored into the fins, where a steady stream will soften and loosen it.

Get some Tesco lemon fresh APC, mix at 4:1 with water and spray all over. Thumbs Up

jkp,

I've seen a few of your pictures on this site. All I can say is, if you lived near these parts, I'd be a regular customer. Quality work, there. Thumbs Up
