Engine cut out

Has anybody had a problem with engine cut out at 70 mph?

I have to-day. Happened twice!! in a space of 2 miles.

Travelling at 70m.p.h. in fast lane, noticed the battery light flicker, followed by total engine cut out. Drifted onto hard shoulder, switched off, switched on. Engine started, continued with my journey. 2 miles later, battery light flicker again, total cut out, drifter onto hard shoulder, switch off, switch on, key in, key out, did not start. 20minutes later eventually started.

Drove straight onto recovery vehicle, to a Land Rover Main Agents. Collected hire car, drove home.

Awaiting Land Rover diagnosis. First time in 34 years of owning and driving Land Rover products that such a thing has happened to me. Big Cry [/b]

Hi Tonka, welcome to DISCO3 Thumbs Up

Most likely cause is a loose connection somewhere at a guess. Should hopefully be an easy fix

Si

PS. I used to have a dog called Tonka coz he was built like a little truck 8)

Hi All
Well we have finally got diagnostic report. I have been told that it is the camshaft sensor. It seems very dangerous to me that a faulty sensor shuts down the engine at 70 mph. It could have cost someones life. I will have to wait till Friday, to find out if it is cured. Will be very wary driving the vehicle now. Feel lack of confidence in vehicle, hope that I am proved to be incorrect with my thoughts. Do so hope that confidence in the correct diagnosis and following repair never needs to be questioned!?!?!

Thanks for the welcome slimer

Not as dangerous as valves in contact with pistons = siezed engine = locked up engine Shocked happened to me once in a Transit with 5k on the clock, caused by faulty oil filter. Left a nice series of S's on the M42 and an interesting Question stain on the drivers seat Whistle
Yer, when they cut out it's not great but the better of the two options IMHO
