Engine sound deadening foam
Hi, anyone know of a source for the sound deadening foam insert that fits under the top engine cover on a 2.7 disco3? ......... mine has fallen to pieces and could well be a potential fire risk unless I replace it or throw the old one away completely!
TIABest Regards,
Dave.

Just checked on the bay and it looks like the current glassMAT is now 30mm thick - think the stuff on the original post was only 10mm so not sure if it will fit - anyone able to confirm?Best Regards,
Dave.

Search for Glassmat, there are various sizes and two thickness available 10mm and 30mm. The 10mm says up to 180 Degrees C but the 30mm says 150 Degrees C.
I was thinking of ordering 1m X1m of the 30mm but is 150 C too low a max temperature? The 10mm would be a lot thinner than the original foam. Has anyone used the 30mm and not BBQ’d their engine bay?

Having done this job, I don't think you'd get 30mm across all of it, it might be too thick. I did a couple of double thickness patches, but not all of it.Richard

Mine started to get tatty now, can you remove it from the cover and refit the cover without it? apart from a bit more noise is there any other reasons not to do it.2005 D3 SE Auto, zermatt silver

You could get away with a smaller piece if you cut two small bits off and stick them in your ears
